|Prologue|
This is what I brought you, this you can keep
This is what I brought, you may forget me
I promise to depart, just promise one thing
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
This is what I brought you, this you can keep
This is what I brought, you may forget me
I promise you my heart, just promise to sing
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
This is what I thought, I thought you'd need me
This is what I thought so think me naive
I'd promise you a heart, you'd promise to keep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
-"Kiss my Eyes and Lay me to Sleep," AFL
"Mei."
The woman sobbed, high whimpers escaping between the thin fingers that covered her partially opened lips. Tears flooded down her cheeks uncontrollably, her eyes wide, unable to detach themselves from the grotesque scene.
Blood – everywhere – splattered on the once - white bed sheets and the wallpaper around it. The smell was overwhelming, filling the senses of both women, making them want to puke.
The body lay face up, belly torn open and eyes scratched out, making it appear to be staring up at the ceiling in some strange way.
"Mei," the girl repeated, trying to keep her voice level despite the uncontrollable sickness that filled her. "Stop crying; call Kiku."
"But –"
"Now."
The words came out harshly, her voice beginning to rasp. The girl listened as Mei hurried out of the room, her feet thumping against the wood running to retrieve help.
"Ai,"
His voice made her flinch even though she knew he was there. A gentle hand rested itself on her shoulder.
"Who could've done this?" Even though she couldn't see his face, she knew that he was just as sickened by the scene as she was.
She swallowed hard, her mouth dry.
"I don't know," she croaked. "But, we can't let anyone else know about it – it'll be… bad."
"It'll be hard to hide." He said apprehensively. "If not impossible. We'll have to watch our backs."
She didn't answer, already feeling the dread of what was yet to come. First the conflict, then the suspicions, and finally the false accusations; It would tear them all apart.
"Kaoru," his name was heavy on her tongue. "Do you think this could lead to –"
"Just don't think about it."
"But, I can't help but –"
"Shhh." He wrapped his arms around her, leaning heavily upon her, trying to avert his gaze from the mutilated body.
Her hand found his and she clutched it tightly.
"Brother," she whispered. "I'm scared."
Thunder crashed against the black sky and heavy drops of rain fell from the heavens, drumming against the thatched roof of the mansion.
The grandfather clock ticked, its' sound deafening in the odd silence. A figure stood at the window gazing out at the darkness ahead.
"Roses are red, violets are blue, posies are the flower that will be the end of you."
The figure turned facing the crimson love seat where its' tall shadow fell over.
"We have an advantage. They'll fall right into the trap, but for now, we'll just wait."
Lightning streaked across the sky, lighting the room for a moment, seemingly illuminating the cold violet eyes that were focused on the loveseat.
"This should be interesting, da?"
