She'd always thought it would make her feel better. It didn't.
Revenge was rumoured to be so sweet. It wasn't.
Staring down at the Director's broken body, Loki's laughing in her ears, her thoughts going back to that day.
~~
"I don't want you to go." Kira smiled and kissed the top of Crystal's head. "You can't."
"I have to, you know that."
The first Avengers were pinned, needed urgent back up and as an Agent, Crystal should know that this was an honour, that Kira's skills as the second best archer on base were being recognized but if the Avengers needed help, it must be bad, so very very bad.
"No."
"Crystal—"
Crystal turned away, angry at herself, angry at Kira but worst of all she was crying.
The taller woman sighed, wrapping her arms around her, taking in a breath to say something, when the voice came over the speakers demanding that the A 2.0 get the helicarrier now. Kissing the top of her head, a whispered "I love you" and her girlfriend was gone, running down the hallway.
~~
Crystal's world had ran out the door that day. The woman she loved more than anything or anyone sprinting away to do what she loved. There hadn't been a goodbye, not really.
She'd seen it all on the TV of course, the two archers on top of the building back to back, looking so cool, calm and in control. No one had expected the Leviathan to take out the skyscraper. No one had expected it to all happen in slow motion.
Hulk had been locked up with the Red Hulk.
Tony on the floor, suit not only low on power from the lengthy fight, but currently pulling a who knows what off of Captain America.
Clint had shot off a rope, everyone had seen it, and that, that had been the problem. Amora the enchantress had laughed as she'd cast the spell. The archers had known, Clint had looked at Kira, Kira at him and she'd smiled a small sad smile, before taking his hand, clear as day on networks across the globe.
They'd been pronounced dead on the scene.
Crystal's dreams had collapsed with that building.
Loki had offered to fix them, spinning such sweet tales of revenge and killing the man who sent her love to die, but now Fury was dead at her hand and nothing felt better.
"Revenge is sweet, is it not, my pet?"
And her blood ran cold because only Kira could call her that, but Kira was dead and Loki was all she had now.
"It is, my Lord."
