The fire escape was the best option.
Even though the ladder was loose and there was an 8-foot drop at the bottom.
Sam eased out first, testing the rungs. Dean watched, face drawn, eyes focused on Sam.
The alley was quiet and Sam motioned for him.
"You go down first." Dean stalled. "It won't hold both of us."
Sam shook his head. "No. It'll hold. Come out. I'll keep it steady.
Dean had been captive for three days. His hair was singed, his eyebrows sooty, and his hands shook. He looked at the pavement below. "Sam."
"I won't let you fall."
