Angel
Raven heard the faint crinkle of a paper and footsteps thudding away. Opening an eye, she wondered who would want to disturb her meditating. The envelope, which was shoved under her door, was shrouded in black energy as it floated towards her. She winced as she saw the cover, a heart with white lace adorning it. Probably from Starfire. This was exactly why she hated Valentine's Day. Everything was decorated with stupid girlish-pink hearts. Not only that. Nobody had actually given her a Valentine. Until now. She looked at the messy scrawl that had written: To Raven. She frowned momentarily. This wasn't the hyperactive Tameranian's handwriting. She braced herself for the worst and opened it.
What greeted her eyes was a photo of her white-cloaked and long-haired. Someone had carefully pasted wings and a halo to make her look like an angel.
Dear Raven,
You might not know this but you're my angel.
Garfield.
"Beastboy?" she whispered uncertainly.
He waited outside her room. Does she like my card? Did she read it? Or does she think it's stupid? A million thoughts went through his head. He had scampered back in kitten form to listen for any reactions. Nothing. He changed back and slumped down. I knew she wouldn't like it…
Raven yanked open the door and saw who she expected to be there. His emerald eyes shot open in confusion as he scrambled up awkwardly from his position.
"Hey Rae," Beastboy searched her amethyst eyes for an emotion but they were totally void of expression.
"Did you send this?" She held up his card.
He winced, nodding as he prepared himself, for what? A scolding, a slap, maybe? But she threw her arms around him and tried to hold back tears.
"Why?" she whispered into his ear, "I'm not…pretty or…"
"You are," he said simply. "You're my angel, remember?"
He lifted her face to his and kissed her tenderly. She kissed back, thinking, Thank you, Beastboy. Thank you for letting me be your angel
