"How about that one? Ravenclaw… shiny hair… Ugh! Never mind. Her eyes are too close together and her nose is a tad off-color."

"You are far too picky, Padfoot, my friend. Perhaps her intelligence far outstrips your own. Perhaps you are intimidated that she could put you in your place?"

Sirius grumbled a few choice insults and slipped off of the short stone wall the pair of them were currently sitting on.

"You win, Remus." He squared his shoulders and started to follow the shiny-haired Ravenclaw girl. "For the record," he added as an afterthought, "no one puts me in my place."

Remus rolled his eyes at the obvious irony, but watched with interest as Sirius continued his pursuit.

"Oy! You there!" Sirius shouted at the girl who turned around in surprise and confusion.

"Yes?"

"Go to Hogsmeade with me tomorrow?"

"Hogsmeade? With you?"

"It's a date!" Sirius turned to give Remus an exaggerated wink before the girl caught him by surprise with a very high-pitched shout.

"I don't even know you!" Her face was growing red as her friends around her began to giggle.

"All the more reason to learn!" Sirius reasoned.

She thrust her nose into the air and marched away, her giggling friends scampering along after her.

"Smooth," smirked Remus as Sirius reluctantly returned to his seat.

"You next then, Moony."

"Oh no. I'll just spend my Hogsmeade trip in Zonko's with Wormtail. I couldn't risk having a girl—"

"Shove off!" cried Sirius loudly, very nearly literally shoving Remus off of his seat. "Having a lunch date for one afternoon won't kill you."

"No, but it might kill her." Remus didn't like spending time with more people than necessary given that he turned into a grotesque, hairy werewolf once a month. "Why are you so obsessed with having dates anyway? Is this all because Prongs finally got his shot with Evans?"

"No," snapped Sirius much too quickly.

"You're jealous," accused Remus. "You can't risk James getting ahead of you in anything besides Quidditch, can you?"

Sirius ignored his friend, pretending to be on the lookout for decent looking girls again.

"Well, I'll tell you one thing. If we've both got dates," Remus continued as though he weren't being ignored, "Wormtail is bound to tag along with one of us, and I doubt he'll pick me…"

Everyone knew that Peter had a fascination with James' Quidditch skills and Sirius' charm far more than anything else, so if it were a date he'd be along on, he'd prefer Sirius over Remus any day.

Sirius' demeanor instantly shifted. He sat up a little straighter, his eyes alert. Jumping down from the wall he said, "Forget about the dates. Want to go get Peeves to dump pumpkin juice on Snivellus?"
