Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters in this story, sadly.
Author's note: This might be a one shot, but I haven't decided yet. And it has been many years since I have read any of the Narnia books so it's movieverse. Also, this is my first Narnia fanfic and I am not too happy with it, so be gentle.
Warning: Boys kiss. Don't like; don't read.

"When do you think you'll be leaving?"

Caspian was holding Peter tightly as they lay in the grass. They had defeated the Telmarines and Caspian was now the true king. There had been continuous feasts and festivities celebrating the new king and his victory. The celebrations were starting to calm down and the two boys finally had a chance to be alone together. They had wandered away into the woods and all they could see was the night sky full of stars and the shadows of the dancing trees.

Caspian asked the question again. "When will you be leaving?"

The calm expression on Peter's face faded into a look of fear and despair. "Why do you think I'm going to leave?" Caspian turned his face from the sky to look at Peter and he was pained by the blonde's expression.

"You misunderstood me," Caspian started. "I meant, you've been here before and already had a lifetime in Narnia. Do you think Aslan will let you have another whole lifetime?" Caspian left out the two words that they were both thinking; with me.

Peter peered up at Caspian. He smiled and kissed Caspian softly. "I'm not worried," Peter set his head back on Caspian's chest and closed his eyes.

As they started to drift into sleep Peter whispered to Caspian, "Aslan would not take away this happiness."

The next day Caspian stood in front of the crowd with the kings, queens, and Aslan. While he told them that they were free to go to the other world his mind drifted to Peter and he desperately hoped that he wouldn't go.

"We'll go." Caspian's thoughts were disrupted by Peter's voice. He couldn't believe what the boy had just said. Apparently, neither could his siblings.

"We're not really needed here anymore." Peter kept speaking but Caspian wasn't hearing the words. Caspian looked towards Aslan in the hopes that he would say something. As Aslan nodded towards Caspian he felt relief flood over him.

"No. One is needed." Peter's countenance changed from grief to awe as he realized what Aslan was talking about.

"It would be disastrous to part two souls that are bound together. For the good of Narnia you must stay," Aslan looked at Peter, "with Caspian."

Peter collapsed to his knees as he held onto Aslan and whispered a feeble 'thank you' through his tears. Peter regained his composure and turned towards his siblings. He gave each of them a lasting hug before he spoke to them.

"I will return and none of us will have even aged a week," Peter lied to them. He knew that he would live his life out in Narnia, with Caspian, and his life would finally be fulfilled.

As he held onto Caspian's hand he watched his siblings depart for the last time. Overcome with conflicting emotions he fell into Caspian's arms where he knew he would be safe and comforted.
