UNDER THE GUN
By: Vanessa Sgroi
Dean was running at top speed, racing toward Sam but knowing he wasn't going to reach his side in time. He started to yell at the top of his lungs and wave his arms. "SAM! SAM! TAKE COVER!" He saw Sam's head turn toward him. "TAKE COVER!"
He was pleased to see Sam dive under an over-sized rocky outcropping. Dean, however, was still very much out in the open and vulnerable. He tried to coax a little more speed from his body. Just when he thought he'd successfully avoid the onslaught, a lightning flash of pain tore through his leg. Dean stumbled, hit the ground.
Regaining his feet, he continued his run albeit with a pronounced limp and finally made it to the outcropping. Unable to slow down, Dean bowled right into Sam.
"Dean, what's going on? What's that buzz?"
"Drones," Dean gasped. "Don't know how many—a lot—they're being controlled by our ghost." Dean straightened. "And they're armed." He pointed to his injured leg.
"You're bleeding."
"I think it's just a scratch."
"You'd say that if it was falling off," grouched Sam. He listened as the buzz grew louder and coalesced directly over their position. "Well, I don't think we're going anywhere for a while; let me look."
"Nah, it'll be fine."
"Dean, knock it off. You know how fast infection can set in. Let me look."
Dean grabbed a flashlight and illuminated the wound. "So look."
"It'll be easier if you take your pants off."
"Not happening."
"Fine. I'll just cut them open."
"Ah, c'mon. They're my favorite jeans!"
"Which is it?"
"All right—I'll take them off. But if we have to make a run for it and I'm in my skivvies, I'll never forgive you."
