"Mrs. McCleanly?" Sam nervously raised his hand.

"Yes Sam?" Mrs. McCleanly crouched down by Sam's desk so they were eye level. "What's wrong?"

"...I can't make a card for my mom." Sam told her looking away.

"Why not? I'm sure she'll love it!" She encouraged him.

"I don't have a mom." Sam said tucking a piece of his hair behind his ear.

"Oh Sam, everyone has a mom!" Mrs. McCleanly told him misunderstanding. "A mother is the person who kisses you goodnight every night, cooks you dinner, tells you they love you, helps you with your homework and holds you when you have nightmares" She told him.

Sam nodded and picked up a blue crayon. "Ok."

"Alright" Mrs. McCleanly said standing up. She walked back over to her desk and sat down.

Sam grabbed a piece of green paper and began to write in sloppy handwriting. "Happy Mother's Day." He drew a large smiley face in purple crayon and then opened up the card. Sam picked up a orange crayon and wrote, "I LOVE YOU!" in all capital letters. Then on the back he wrote, "To Dean Love Sammy." He couldn't wait to give it to his brother.
