Strange New Scent
He picks up a strange scent: new, but familiar.
It's blown his way by the wind. He follows it. Finds a human like his master, but not like. He is frightened for one; his master hardly ever frightened. He smells a little different too: some grassy scent, none of that strong shampoo.
He also smells hesitation, another thing his master mostly lacks. But this boy smells like master otherwise, and when he gets over his surprise and pets him, he feels like master too: cold and warm together. Safe.
He leaves; the scent comes again, later times. He doesn't mind.
