A Sacrificial Victim
By SugarHighNutcase
I recently realized that in all the fics I've read, I have never read one about this scene in the movie. I think this part is very important, and I just had to write about it while the idea was still fresh in my mind. This is the scene where the Witch comes to get Ed back, to sacrifice him, kill him for whatever purpose. Please forgive me, but I haven't seen the movie in a few weeks, so all the details aren't clear. Movieverse fic, obviously. Italics are Peter's thoughts, in case that wasn't clear. Enjoy!
The Witch walks by, glaring at all those who dare fight against her. Her cold eyes linger on you, and though you meet her gaze, I can see you're afraid.
Don't be. I'm here; I'll protect you.
I step forward slightly without realizing it. She has turned her gaze onto Aslan.
Aslan, yes, he'll stop this.
He and the Witch are arguing about you. You watch nervously, frightened.
A sacrifice? What was that about a sacrifice?
All eyes turn toward you. You look down for a moment, then shift your gaze to me. I try to reassure you with my own eyes, but I myself am afraid now.
They're going to sacrifice Ed, aren't they? They can't! I won't let them hurt my brother, not after I just got him back.
Aslan is talking; I don't know what he's saying. An angry buzz has filled my ears, and the only thing I can hear is the quick beat of my heart.
No. This isn't happening.
You shift next to me. I want so badly to hug you, to hold you, to make everything better, but I don't. I can't.
Not my brother.
You are glaring at everyone and anyone who looks your way. You pretend you don't care what they do to you, but you are shaking next to me, and small beads of sweat have appeared on your forehead.
You can pretend not to care, little brother, but I do. They can't do this!
I myself am shaking- whether from fear or anger, I'm not sure. Aslan and the White Witch have gone inside the tent to negotiate.
Oh, God, Aslan, please. Save my brother.
He comes out, the Witch following. She is smirking.
That's it. She's won.
I feel you stiffen beside me. You prepare yourself for the worst.
I won't let them, Ed, I won't.
Aslan announces that you won't be sacrificed. I can breath again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you…
You grin, relieved, and cheers fill the air. I smile and hug you. Inside, I'm doing my own little happy dance.
Thank you, thank you…
You look up at me, grin fading ever so slightly. I grin and squeeze your arm as Lu hugs you tightly.
It's okay now, everything's okay.
We've won this time.
But next time? Maybe not so lucky.
