I've been slacking...Prompt #15

In Suna mythology, Shukaku is viewed as a god. He is the ruler of the desert, master of the wind, and controller of the sand.
So, to say that the vessel of Shukaku is also a god was no long stretch.

Funny, you'd think they would have treated him better. She thought offhandedly as she skimmed through the pages of ancient Suna religion.

Back when Suna was first founded, Shukaku ruled the land.
The people of Suna would offer him food, water, and animals in order to appease him. If Shukaku was satisfied, the sandstorms that raped the city would lessen, and the people would be left alone.
If he wasn't appeased...well, that was a whole different story.

According to the book, there had been multiple attempts to bind Shukaku to the souls of the villagers.
All of them failed of course. Within a matter of weeks, days, or hours, the host was ripped apart and Shukaku would break free.
The book warned against trying to confine Shukaku into a human host.

Humphing at that, Sakura quickly turned the page. Good thing they listened...

The next chapter was about a prophecy on how one day a human would be able to successfully contain and hold Shukaku. That person would become one of the strongest ninjas in the world and would quickly rise to the top of the shinobi world. The people of Suna would bow and worship him...

Slamming the book shut, Sakura rolled her eyes. There was only so much she could take.

Hearing their front door open and close, she walked into the main room to greet him.

"Hey." he said, placing his gourd onto the floor.

Smiling widely, she dropped to her knees and crawled to his feet. "Oh lord and master!" she exclaimed, grabbing onto his ankles. "Please have mercy on my soul!"

"You've been reading that book again, haven't you." he said flatly, clearly not amused by her antics.

"I am not worthy of your mercy master!" she exclaimed, clawing her way up his legs.

Moving away from her immediately, she collapsed on the floor and squirmed around on the ground.

"Why have you forsaken me?!" she screamed as she pulled on her hair.

"Sakura, stop."

Laughing, she sat up and smiled at him.

"I'm glad you find yourself amusing."

Smoothing her hair back into her ponytail she laughed and said, "You'd don't?"

"No."

"Where's your sense of humor?" she teased, pushing herself off the ground and moving toward him to give him a hug.

"It's not funny." he said, pulling her into him.

Tucking her head into his neck she sighed, "It's a good thing you don't believe any of it..."

"Why's that?"

"Because," she said as placed a kiss onto his nose. "There'd be no room for me and your ego."

"Sure there would," his grip on her tightened, making it impossible for her to pull away. "I'd keep you around just to let me know how utterly awesome I am."

Narrowing her eyes at him, she punched him lightly on the chest before she leaned in to give him the 'welcome home' kiss she had wanted to give him originally.
