"Light Quest"
The darkness came all too soon The sun began to rise over the misty mountain tops But the light was shadowed and seemed non existent
The darkness came over my small house in the wood Deceiving the creatures surrounding the area For it wasn't the morning dove which awoke me from my slumber But the screech of the horned owl Rapidly soaring over the trees
I left my house in a rapid chaos My journey to the light has finally begun My peers once told me that this day would never come That it was a horror story told by those who were out casted and different. Though I trusted them then, I had a feeling inside of me that I could not explain
Now that feeling is what leads me forward. Past the elegant pines Across the shimmering lake The darkness never leaving my side throughout the journey
I wonder closer to the mountains Where the sun usually sits In hopes to see only a speck of light But to my surprise, there is only a dark cold hole
I scream out to the sky "Where has the light gone?" "What shall I do in order to bring my life back to the way it was before?"
Though I was not expecting anyone to answer Someone did For at that precise moment writing formed in the darkness of the sky It read: "Listen to the voices of the forest. The words of men can be deceiving and corrupt. But the trees and the creatures roaming the wood Are wiser than any man could ever be."
As the letters from the sky began to fade, Questions arose inside of me Questions that seemed impossible to comprehend And questions that seemed unbearable to ask. For I was now in a state of ultimate confusion With only the wood to call upon for guidance.
I left the mountain And traveled for many days listening to the creatures around me And hearing the faint whisper of the trees
Through this time, the message in the sky kept running through my mind How was it possible that people I called my best friends Were all along harming and corrupting my whole world? This question was one that kept me onward toward the everlasting horizon. Searching for reasoning that would never come
The days began to grow darker than what they were when my journey began For now I could only hear around me. In means of surrender, I sat on the root of an old willow tree Depressed and Defeated. For I had traveled many days in hopes to find an answer to the everlasting darkness Which in consequence, only grew darker?
I sat a long while under the tree Weeping at my defeat Never knowing if the light would ever return For if it abandoned me completely I will be at the mercy of evil Fearing every minute of my life From now until the end of my days
As I pondered over these issues With tears falling from my eyes A small stream of light began to rise over the forest A warm feeling was present all around For I had finally realized that the darkness was there In order to break my wall of pride
I rose from my new throne under the tree And began my journey back to my small house. But I soon saw That my journey through the darkness Had already brought me back to my home in the wood.
In the days to follow I awoke to the morning dove's call I heard the soft whispers of the trees. And I listened carefully to both.
The journey for the light will soon come to everyone Though many don't want to believe it. The lessons taught to those who are willing to hear Can change our greedy, selfish world Into a peaceful and harmonious place to live.
So I come to you now And simply tell you this Listen and trust the creatures of the wood They are wiser than any other hear on this Earth They will guide you to safety And help you fight the darkness The words of men are harmful and corrupt The words of the forest are soft and gently spoken.
