More Than Love

They sleep on the same side of the fire. Neither one thinks much of it...at first. For a year and a half, things go unchanged. Every touch is just that: a touch. But then they both feel the change. It happens abruptly, and the warrior feels it first. She knew her friend was beautiful-but she didn't realize just how beautiful. She lies awake, until the fires has burned itself to ashes, watching her companion, her eyes slipping over every curve.

This goes on for weeks, and then the blonde one feels it, too. The bard sleeps closer at night, and they both notice. They do nothing, however, to act upon this.

They know they love each other. They know they belong to each other and no one else. They are best friends, but now it is more than emotional, more than mental. It's morphed into a physical desire that neither can ignore.

And every night becomes a battle not to fall upon the other. Everything is different. And at the same time, nothing is different. Their days are much the same, and it's mostly the dreams that change.

The warrior feels it. The bard feels it. And still they do nothing, for fear of ruining what is certainly a beautiful friendship. One night, however, that is not enough for either of them. And as they lie there, they both know the other is awake. And upon gazing into each other's eyes, they each see what they've been holding inside of themselves reflected back.

So, they come together, souls so obviously meant to be one meshing, bodies twisting and turning and curving to one another. Light pink lips are on a tanned, muscled neck, and strong hands are on a smaller back. No inch of skin is off limits, and they find themselves in their love for each other.

After it is over, (but just for tonight), they lie in each other's arms, marveling at how well the two bodies fit together, how perfectly they connect. And they wonder how they missed it before.

Because now they both know and they agree, although no words on the subject are spoken, that it is so much more than love.

It is eternity in a single touch, forever in every kiss. It is two different people, so obviously meant to be one, finally finding each other and finding that they fit.

It is eternity. It is forever. It is always.

It is Soul Mates.
