Lindsey the Babysitter

"Lindsey, are you sure about this?" Jackie asked.

"Sure, it's no problem, I've babysat before." Lindsey assured her.

"Yeah well not these kids, they are like mini tornadoes." Jackie said.

"I'll be fine." Lindsey insisted.

"Ok, but if you need anything both Nick and I have our cell phones, don't be afraid to call us."

"I won't." she said.

Nick and Jackie were going to a movie and Lindsey, who was home from college for Christmas break was nice enough to babysit.

An hour later Lindsey thought her head was going to explode. Jasmine was spinning around in circles like she was completely crazy and Houston kept trying to escape to the kitchen out of Lindsey's sight.

"Jasmine, stop that, you're going to fall and crack your noodle. Houston get back here." She said before darting out to the kitchen once again to corral the child.

At least Johnna was cooperating, she was fast asleep in her swing.

A while later Jasmine had settled down and Lindsey sat with Houston on her lap so he couldn't go anywhere.

"Pay." Jasmine said as she handed Lindsey her Jack-In-The-Box.

Lindsey grabbed the handle and spun it until Jack popped out.

The kids giggled hysterically.

"Do gin." Jasmine said.

Lindsey held the toy closer to herself to make it easier to hold, which turned out to be a big mistake because when ol' Jack popped out of the box he smacked Lindsey right in the eye.

"Ouch." She said as she dropped the toy on the floor.

"Uh-oh." Jasmine said wide eyed.

Lindsey sighed, this was not turning out to be a very good evening.

Just when Lindsey thought she was going to go completely bonkers the kids fell asleep. She let out a sigh of relief after she had tucked both of them into bed. She then went to the freezer and took out an ice pack for her sore eye. She went and looked at it in the mirror, right under her eye there was a tiny bruise. After returning to the living room she grabbed the remote and then plopped down on the couch. A half hour later Nick and Jackie walked through the door.

"Hi Lindsey, how did it go?" Jackie asked.

"Fine." Lindsey fibbed as she forced a smile, the truth was she was exhausted, and her eye hurt.

Nick dug out his wallet and tried to hand Lindsey money.

"No, it's ok, I don't need that." She said.

"Hey, you earned it." Nick said.

"Why do you say that?" Lindsey asked.

"I've met these kids, trust me, I know you earned it." Nick said with a laugh.

Lindsey laughed as she finally agreed to take the money. "Thanks Nick." She said.

"Sure, thank you for watching the little rascals." He said.

"Yes, thank you." Jackie added.

"No problem." she assured them.

"Lindsey what happened to your eye?" Jackie asked as she squinted to see the girl's injury.

"Long story." Lindsey said with a chuckle.

Jackie nodded and didn't press any farther.

"I better get going though, I'm meeting a friend for breakfast early in the morning."

"Ok thanks again." Nick said as Lindsey grabbed her coat.

"Sure, anytime." She said as Nick opened the front door for her.

He watched as she got into her car and shut the car door.

When she got home Lindsey was eager to crawl into bed, she had never before felt so exhausted. She definitely had a new view on parenting.

The End! Don't forget to review!
