My life unravelled, I came undone

The day they took my little one

From me you were borne away

Not to be seen for many a long day

I was shattered, my heart broke in two

The day they parted me from you

But somehow you came back to me

And from the darkness set me free

When I was in the depths of despair

You came and found me, took me from there

Took me by the hand, led me out in to the light

And promised that everything would be alright

But then war came and found you again

Taking from me my dearest friend

Long I cried, many tears I shed

For you my dearest, when we thought you dead

But fate had left in her room for one more surprise

When they finally found you, weak but alive

You were granted a final reprieve

And I was spared the need to grieve

Still she was hard on you; she never spared you from pain

And often it appeared your strength would wane

At these times you would put up a valiant fight

And show once again to us your bravery and might

Now I watch you as you smile and laugh

My soul no longer torn in half

For my little lad has come back to me

Grown now and stronger than I ever dreamed you'd be.

A/N: I very rarely do poetry but somehow this popped in my head today and I thought it would be the perfect accompaniment to Only Sleeping. Please feel free to comment, I know the technical side may not be so great, but I would love to know what you thought of the poem itself.
