Prologue

Emma Geller had a strange nostalgia for things. She was sure her friends suspected this, and knew why she had chosen this particular apartment. She had moved in 2 years ago, with her cousin Erica and their best friend, Regina Hannigan-Buffay, when they had graduated from NYU. After about a year, she had convinced Erica's brother, Jack, and their friend, Rex Tribbiani, to move into the apartment across the hall after they graduated their respective schools. Her half-brother, Ben, lived in the apartment across from them. (They had a long-going window printer paper message conversation.)

Emma had a degree in early childhood development and worked during the week as a nanny for the young children of Chandler Buffay, Regina's cousin. Ben had gotten his bachelor's at Brown, and had published a couple children's books and was working on his first full length novel. Regina was a part-time freelance graphic designer and full time lesbian, who often designed the new menus at her Aunt Monica's restaurant. She kept her hair long, though, in pretty auburn-red layers that dusted her collarbone.

Rex was the illegitimate son of Joey Tribbiani. Joey didn't learn about him until Rex turned three, and his mother, a woman called Mary Ellen, went to drug rehab for the second time. He bought a brownstone outside the city and put a hold on his smooth-talking skirt chasing ways. Rex had gotten his father's good looks but his intellect from elsewhere. He was in law school, working to become a human resources lawyer.

Erica, who had her birth mother's hair, but her real dad's sarcasm and dry wit, had a film and writing degree and now did shows with the Upright Citizen's Brigade. Jack followed in his mother's footsteps and was in culinary school, working as a cook in his mother's kitchen at Javu.

Emma was lucky that she loved them, and they loved her, because they put up with that weird nostalgia. They did not question why she kept her hair in that layered bob, or why they all met up at Central Perk on their breaks. It was because she cherished what used to be. She had written her entire senior thesis about how her whole attitude derived from a close and loving relationship with her parents, extended family, and their friends. Healthy or not, she loved her friends.

Okay, so I don't really have any idea where I'm going with this story, but I would love to see what you want to please review with lots of ideas for future chapters. I'm basically going to stick with these six main characters. Here are the pairings I'm thinking of

Emma/Regina

Erica/Rex
