That Was Almost Us

David looked at his family was such joy and fascination. His family was coming together and it was a dream come true for him. He couldn't be happier. Everything fell into place for him.

He felt a tap on his shoulder and quickly turned around. "Kathryn," he said in mild surprise.

She chuckled. "Hello David. It's good to see you again. It's been a while."

He started rubbing the back of his neck. "It has been. How have you have been doing?"

"Good. Frederick and I are happy. My dream of being a lawyer got delayed a bit," she replied. "However, you have and Snow have been doing well," she finished looking over at Snow cradling the baby.

David started feeling a little guilty as he remembered their own pregnancy scare. She narrowed her eyes sensing what he was feeling.

"David, you can stop beating yourself up over what happened to us. It was all fake. We thought we had something but we were never meant to be," she said. "You can't stop true love."

He gave a tight smile. "You know I still care. I hurt you and it wasn't fair to put you through that. I just want you to be happy. You deserve it."

"I am," she said smiling looking over at Frederick at the bar. "He's my happy ending as Snow is yours." She paused for a second. "Besides, I would have made life miserable for us back home. I wasn't overly enthused about our nuptials."

"Really? I couldn't tell. You were glowing with joy," he teased. She laughed softly.

"Yes, because your joy just radiated off of you as well," she teased back.

Their laughter died down and they silently stood there for a few seconds. They heard footsteps approaching.

"Am I interrupting something?" Frederick asked putting his arm around Kathryn's waist.

"No Frederick. David and I were just catching up," she answered.

"Congratulations on the new addition to the family," he said extending his hand. David shook it.

"Thank you. Snow and I are thrilled to finally meet him," he said letting his pride come through.

"You're a great father David. I have no doubt you will be a great one to this child," Kathryn stated. "I guess we will let you get back to Snow. See you around. Take care," she continued.

"Take care," he said and watched them go to the other side of Granny's. David went back over to Snow and she looked up.

"So that looked rather interesting," she said glancing toward Kathryn and Frederick. "Was it incredibly awkward?"

"Not too awkward," he said. "She is happy for us. If it wasn't for her I don't think we would have met."

Snow laughed. "Maybe." Snow turned back to the baby while David caught Kathryn looking. She smiled sheepishly.

They had the same thought running through their minds. It was almost them who had the proverbial fairytale. It all seemed like a dream now.
