Alphonse Elric understood what happiness was. He understood it couldn't be defined by one specific thing. Happiness was a million different moments in time, captured by the heart's fancy. He understood that happiness was unique for each person. For him, happiness was a warm summer's day and feeling the bright sunrays on his face. Happiness was his mother's soft smile and the flowery scent of her perfume. Happiness was a kiss from a long-forgotten face with a scratchy beard. Happiness was bright golden eyes asking for forgiveness as they sat at the river's edge. Happiness was climbing into his brother's bed as a storm raged outside the window, making frightening shadows in the room, but then not being afraid anymore because of warm arms wrapped securely around him, ensuring his safety. Happiness was playing all day by the river with his brother and best friend. Happiness was picking flowers for Mother, and seeing her face light up especially for him. Happiness was a warm hug from his brother. Happiness was seeing those tawny orbs light up because of him. Happiness was being with his brother each and every day. So yes, Alphonse Elric understood perfectly what happiness was.
