The Point Of No Return

Written by Shaun Garin

"This is all the aid Dumbledore sends? A grubby hat and a bird?" mocked the nearly corporeal spirit of Tom Riddle and he cackled, high pitched and loud. With a loud violent hissing, he ordered the Basilisk to attack.

The Basilisk did so and Harry dove to the side, clutching the Sorting Hat in his hands and somehow, in the middle of the fight, it ended up on his head. A heavy thump answered him and he yanked off the hat to see a glittering sword, a ruby imbedded in the pommel.

Drawing the heavy blade, he swung it about, warding off the Basilisk as the snake had been blinded due to Fawkes clawing it's eyes out. The Basilisk struck and Harry's arm was impaled deeply onto the fang. He cried out but the sword dug deeply into the roof of the giant snake's mouth.

"I… I can't die," whispered Harry to himself as the venom begun to spread quickly.

Say the words…

Harry fought, his consciousness swimming to the uppermost of his mind as he struggled to free himself from the snake's deadly bite.

Say the words, and grasp it's power.

Harry, let go.
