There is the new recruit, Edward the Green Horn, who now fights for his freedom and the chance to find his love.

Then there's Emmett; I don't know much about him yet, but he's big.

Then there's me; Felix. I gave up everything for my family and just like everyone else; I fight to win it all back. I am a gladiator.

Prologue: Choices

Unknown POV

Once you enter into the life of a gladiator, the world and freedom you knew before it is soon wiped clean. First and foremost you are a slave. Your will is shaved down, you do not speak unless you are commanded to do so. You sleep when you are told to sleep, wake when you're told to wake, and so on. If you don't, you will be punished, and put on lock down. If you disrespect your Lord, then you are punished.

You kill when you are told to kill. Unless you are gifted with the title Champion and you have earned the right to buy your freedom back. In the twenty years I served my Lord Aro, I had at last earned my freedom.

As I knelt down on one knee in front of my Lord, my head bowed, I heard his sandaled feet move toward me on the marble floor. Aro's voice had a velvety texture to it when he spoke.

"This is truly what you wish for? I could give you so much more if you stayed. One of my highest guards, in time I would allow you to choose five other gladiators to stand beside you. Any woman of your choosing would be yours."

What would my decision be? Freedom so I could buy Thea's freedom, and have the family my heart and arms ached for. Or would I choose servitude to my Lord Aro, condemning the lives of five other men as well?

Aro's velvety voice brought me back from my thoughts.

"What is your choice, gladiator?"

My Lord's hands were suddenly grasping mine; they were cold as the winter. The very air around him smelled of death.

So what choice did I have? I could become Aro's pawn again or I could kill him.

I am Felix the Courageous and I am a Gladiator!
