Death at its finest

I know that it has been a while since I last reviewed but I just want to start off with saying a big thank you to Kailia Kerovia Oliver, kanna-yamamoto and Bloodshot 2.0. You guys are amazing and I have decided that in honour of you, I will post two chapters. This is a revamp of chapter one as I didn't really like the other one but I will still keep some bits in.

Chapter 1

FLASHBACK

They ran through the thickening wood, smiles evident on their small round faces.

"Come on, Byakuya. I think I see something over there," a small girl said softly as a grey eyed boy came running up to her.

Together, the two children looked down to see a small lake with dozens of various sized rocks that lay in a zig zag across the water.

"Don't you think that this has been staged for someone to find?" Byakuya asked the girl but all she did was shake her head.

"Surely, we will never know until we find out, Byakuya. So, let us see it before it becomes dark and we have to go back," she answered back gently, making the boy look at her questioningly.

"Are you sure, Makani-chan?"

"Very sure, Byakuya-chan,"

So together, the two ran down towards the large shimmering lake. The wind had picked up by the time the two reached the lake and the sky was leaking colours by the saturated sunset. Night would be there in a few minutes and no one would ever dare go out in the forest after dark. So, hurrying along, the girl known as Makani jumped onto the first rock. Balancing at the tip of her toe. Following her lead, the Kuchiki soon was on the rocks with her. Jumping from one to the other, never looking back or down, just ahead.

"Hey, look at that Byakuya-chan!" she exclaimed, pointing to a large submerged piece of stone that lay under the crystal-clear lake.

"How did it get down there? You can't possibly just throw it in this lake without breaking your back and if you did throw it in then it would have been closer to the land. Makani-chan what are you doing in the water? You can get a cold!" he shouted as she entered the clear water, causing her ankle length smoky grey hair to swirl around her.

"It has something written on it, Byakuya-chan. I want to read it," she answered as his eyes widened in shock.

He had seen her do some crazy things before, but this was the last straw. What lunatic would decide that it was a good idea to go into freezing cold water just to see what an old rock had written on it? Makani Shiba would. Grabbing her wrist, he pulled the now submerged girl out the water and the land. It was beginning to get dark and the sun was setting fast.

"Come on, Makani-chan. Let us go back to our homes, your dad is probably worried about you," he said once they had gotten back to the land.

Nodding in agreement, Makani ran back home with Byakuya and making sure to wish fare well to him when they separated ways. But also making sure to not tell him of the words she saw that lay carved in the old large rock.

END OF FLASHBACK

It had been years since Makani had been at the lake. She had been occupied with her jobs as a soul reaper and the disappearance of her dad. So, she had spent every night trying to get a way of finding him but it only came up as a dead end. She gave up. For the first time in her life, Makani Shiba gave up on the search and only then did she realise how many people cared about her. Starting with her main support beam, Byakuya Kuchiki…

Resting her head on his shoulder, Makani let out a content sigh as she closed her green and purple eyes. Looking down at her, Byakuya smiled and kissed her forehead. They were currently in her house, Byakuya was reading and Makani was sleeping on his shoulder. This was just the way they were, the oddest couple ever but that didn't change their feelings for each other. Toushiro even made the comment that the two were even more different than ice and fire or the cold and warmth.

She hadn't thought about her father in years and tried her hardest not to because if she did, she would become her old paranoid self. All she wanted to do now was focus on her relationship with Byakuya and her responsibilities. Nothing else.

Gently, Byakuya took hold of her hand and kissed her lips. To which she responded. Pulling away, Byakuya gave her a small smile as he stood up.

"I will see you tomorrow, Makani. I hope you sleep well,"

"See you tomorrow, Byakuya. And remember to take your book," she replied causing the Kuchiki to blush.

"One time I left it here, Makani, I didn't mean for it to be left here but you made it worse by giving it to me in the middle of a conversation,"

"I only wanted you to have your book back and what is the matter with that, everyone already knows that we are dating so what is the problem?"

Shacking his head, Byakuya walked towards the door. "Good night, Makani,"

World of the living

Koursaki house

Isshin Koursaki paced the room, his eyes scanning the walls every now and then. He had just found out that his daughter was still alive and living a life as a soul reaper. What was he supposed to do? Go up to her and say that he was her father, that had left her alone in the soul society. No that would scare the living day lights out of her. Then he thought of Ichigo, Yuzu and Karin. How was he supposed to tell them?
