Allen Walker's Song
To fully understand this very short story -or short act if you will- you should listen to the 14th Melody or the Musician's Score. The song lyrics in this story are not of my making, but are from the -Man anime and manga. It was sung by Sanae Kobayashi, who voiced Allen Walker in the anime. The song is just so sad I had to put something down in words.
His fingers landed softly on the piano keys, moving on their own accord. Never hesitating, never pausing to think. It was as though the melody was coming from his heart and flowing from his fingertips sweetly. A memory of soft singing… he closed his eyes as he heard a voice entwine with the notes. Momentarily, his brows knitted together in wonder, but quickly smoothed out as the soothing familiarity of the voice washed over him. He could see images flitting behind his closed eyes, memories long dead coaxed to the surface once more. The song was a story. It was Allen Walker's story; his story. History – the story of a prayer for someone loved. He didn't notice – but he cried.
Then the boy fell asleep
and one or two embers in the fading ashes of the fire
flared up in the shape of a beloved face
Dreaming many thousands of dreams
spreading across the land
Your silver gray eyes shine their light
like stars falling down from the night sky
Even though countless of years
turn so many prayers back to earth
I will keep praying
somehow, love for this child please
kissing the joined hands
He knew then that it had been him, Allen Walker that Mana had loved. Never the 14th, but Allen – the little boy Allen, who was not an Exorcist, not a Noah, not a monster, but a boy in need of love, care and friendship.
And his fingers flew over the keys once more… the music was the 14th's, but the song was his.
