Story: Sharon is sick and finally realizes something. Andy comes by for a visit.
It was the best of times; it was the worst of times when she fell ill. She could not go to work and after four days, she became bored. Sharon was sitting on her couch, watching the sky turn from a light blue to orange to a pink-purple-ish colour to a dark blue, as the day found its end. When Rusty finally came home, he made soup and some tea for her. The doctor had said that she should rest and drink a lot if she wanted to get better. It was hard for her because all her life, she has constantly been working. As she grew older, she realized that some things were not worth fighting for. That was one of the reasons she decided to stop trying to uphold her marriage and finally get divorced after 3 decades. She was sick of Jack becoming a violent drunk after a few years and he wasn't a good influence on Ricky and Emily. Now, after so many years, she was happy that he had broken her heart when he left over and over again. Sharon snapped out of her thoughts when she heard her phone buzz. It was a text from Andy. A smile graced her face when she read the message. It was a wonderful feeling, knowing that there was someone in her life, besides her children, that cared for her and her well-being. Andy was a good friend of hers but during the last 2 months, her feelings had shifted and she was pretty sure Andy's feelings have evolved the same way. Their casual dinners once in a while, after a very hard case, soon became a routine and now they go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner at least once a week. It was an evening, about one week ago, when she realized that Andy meant more to her than 'just a friend'. Rusty had pointed out that she made a real effort to get ready for her 'non-date'. She wore a new dress and her make up was a little bit more extravagant than usual. She was curling her hair when she heard the doorbell and almost burned herself with the curling iron. Rusty went to open the door and she heard Andy and Rusty talking. When she had finished, she grabbed her purse went into the living room where she found the two standing. Andy looked at her in complete astonishment.
Suddenly, Sharon sat up straight on the couch. She had fallen asleep and remembering her dream, or more specifically her memory, she started smiling. Hearing someone knock on the door, she got up and opened Andy in front of her, her smile widened. He looked at her and couldn't believe how beautiful and cute she looked, even though she was sick. He leaned in to give her a kiss on the cheek and it was the most natural thing for them. Sharon let him in and they sat down on the sofa. Andy informed her about their latest case and Sharon assured him that she was feeling better in return. They were drinking tea when Sharon let out a yawn and snuggled into Andy's side, closing her eyes, without even thinking about it.
Waking up an hour later, she realized that Andy was watching her. They were close, very close, but she didn't mind. Before even registering what was happening, she felt his lips on hers and her head went blank. After parting, she smiled at him and he pulled her into his arms. Lying there, she realized that even though she had been sick, she could finally be happy again. Taking that wonderful and magical step from being friends to so much more was the best thing that has happened to her in one of the worst times. She hated being sick but in the end, it was what led to their happiness and promising life together.
