Her feet scuffed on the sidewalk as she trudged her way up the sidewalk. She glanced up at the sun, cursing at the summer heat causing a light sheen of sweat on her brow. Not only was LA in a huge drought, but it was also a blistering 100 degrees out.
Waking up late had caused Karin to miss her usual walk in the shade and forced her to walk in the sun.
As her mind drifted to thoughts of shade and cool drinks, she felt a cool breeze whisper through her hair carrying a faint scent of pine and snow. She stopped, but the mysterious cool air was gone. She looked around hoping to find the source, but with no avail.
She scrunched her eyes against the sun, resigned to her fate of burning up on the sidewalk. Just as she took another step, she felt it again. A gust of cold air blew out of the alley on the left. Without a second thought, she took off in the direction of the promising temperature.
Her skirt fluttered in the light wind as she hastened down the shaded alley into the increasingly pleasant atmosphere. She wasn't looking as she shot out of the alley and straight into someone, who made an "umph" as they collided. He caught her before she fell into the street from momentum. Looking up into his eyes, she blushed as she recognized Toshirou from her classes. They hadn't really spoken, but they knew of each other.
Rather than springing off of him as she usually would, she leaned closer inhaling the fresh pine smell that he seemed to be surrounded by. Oh dear lord he smelled good, and how was he so cool in this heat? His white hair was gravity-defying as ever, and his skin bore no hint of a flush.
Suddenly realizing their proximity, Karin stepped back, stammering an apology. She glanced up when she heard him chuckle, her wide dark eyes meeting his laughing teal ones. As he continued giggling at her, she frowned and bumped him, "hey its not that funny!"
He ruffled her hair and jokingly draped an arm around her shoulders, reminding her of how cold his body was. "Hey, let's get coffee," he suggested."
She smiled up at him and nodded cheerfully. there was no way she could pass up the opportunity to hang out with the walking talking evergreen smelling ice cube of a human.
