"It's so hot." Lily Evans lay on her back in the grass underneath the shade of a tree. Her older sister, Petunia, was sitting with her back against the tree, her eyes closed. They had escaped the warmth of the house on this unusually warm June day, but as there was no breeze, being outside didn't feel much better.

"I wish we had some ice cream," Petunia said. "That would make it better." She glanced over at her little sister. At eight years old, Petunia was two years older than the little red-haired girl, but they were the best of friends. They were inseparable.

"We should go see if Mummy has any!" Lily said excitedly, sitting up. "Ice cream does sound good."

Petunia got up from her seat on the ground and held out a hand to Lily. "Come on then, let's go find her."

The girls found their mother in the kitchen, a small fan standing in the middle of the table in front of her face. She looked up when her daughters entered the room. "Staying cool, girls?"

"Actually, Mummy," Lily said, "we thought we'd like some ice cream."

Mrs. Evans got up from the table and opened the freezer. "Well, let's see here..." She rummaged around for a few seconds before pulling out a container of vanilla ice cream, much to the delight of the girls. "There is some. Although," she said as she opened it, "I don't think there's quite enough for two of you."

The girls' smiles fell. "Couldn't we go to the store and get some more?" Lily asked.

"Your father has the car at work, dear, and it's a long walk to the store, especially in this heat." She looked at her daughters thoughtfully. "I could make you a milkshake to share, though."

"Oh Mummy, that would be wonderful!" Petunia squealed with delight. "Do we have any chocolate to put in it? I know how much Lily loves chocolate."

"Oh, and sprinkles lots and lots of them!" Lily chimed in. "You love sprinkles, Tuney!"

"I'll see what I can do. Why don't you two sit in front of the fan while I make it?"

Several minutes later, Petunia and Lily were settled on one end of the kitchen table, a chocolate milkshake with plenty of sprinkles sitting between them, two straws poking out of it. Lily sighed as she took her first sip. "Oh this is delicious Mummy, thank you!" Mrs. Evans smiled at them, happy that they were happy.

The two sipped from the milkshake slowly, savoring the cool, creamy flavor, giggling from time to time. It was the highlight of their day.

Sitting in her living room on a hot July day thirty years later, Petunia smiled at the memory. She may have hated what her sister had become, but she still remembered fondly what she had been.

"Mum, have we got any ice cream?" Dudley's voice came from the doorway. "I'm starving and hot."

Petunia smiled as she rose from her seat. "I've got just the thing, Dudders," she said as she led him to the kitchen. "How about a chocolate milkshake with lots and lots of sprinkles?"
