I loved her.
Love brings nothing,
nothing but pain.
I tried to let her see,
Let her see that I could be good.
But you can't wash blood from ivory sheets.
Her sight was stained with my darkness.
I tried to make her love me,
And she shattered,
Like glass thrown from a very tall building.
Because you can't bend a mountain, no matter how you scream.
Light cannot breach darkness, though she tries.
And the ebony wolf wails, begging the moon to take it back.
Evil is shunned, though goodness carries it close.
We lie to each other.
She tells me she hates me
I scream that she will die at my hands.
But she does not hate me.
She begs and pleads to me
To let her go
But I cannot
And the ebony wolf howls
And the mountain can only break
And I can only stand
Stand and watch my love run
Run to her husband
Her children
Her life
And I light the match
And watch it all burn
And all I can do is laugh
