The Pain of Life

It hit her suddenly, right in the middle of their afternoon tea; just days since she'd said goodbye to the only man she'd ever loved, and hello to the one man who could love her. They had both been left a little shell shocked by it all; she had worked so hard for that one brief moment where she stood by his side running for her life. Only to have all her hopes dashed when he'd walked away the rift between their two universes sealing shut behind her. Leaving her behind, but not alone.

"Jack died!" she blurted out suddenly. In the madness that had followed the Doctor's departure, Rose had been far too caught up in getting back to London, and trying to sort out her emotions over the man who sat across from her spreading a thick layer of sweet jam over his biscuit.

"Yeah," he drawled taking a bite of his treat a pleasant smile on his face.

"I saw him die," she stressed, "Right in front of me, he was shot yeah?"

He nodded, "I remember," his tone was indifferent.

"He died" Rose stressed each word, "And then he was back."

"You don't know?" he asked popping the last of his biscuit into his mouth.

"Obviously," she said leaning across the table.

"When you absorbed the Vortex, you brought him back to life."

That shocked a deep memory through Rose -I bring life-

"You made him immortal," he explained resting a hand on hers.

"He'll live forever…" she whispered looking into her cup of tea, "I wish I were him…."

His hand slowly left hers.
