A/N: This is just a theory of mine. Also, this is my first fanfic.

Disclaimer: I do not own Heroes or any of its characters. The idea I got from when I was rewatching some of the clips on-line and the RNA symbol on her back when Nikki isn't herself. The "plot" is from Medical Mysteries on ABC during the summer. No money is being made off of this, so don't sue me.

Knock, knock, knock.

There it was, the sound that Nikki had been waiting for the entire day. She knew shouldn't have applied for welfare. It was a stupid idea.

But what else could she, as a mother, have done? She didn't want to send Micah away, but she didn't have the money to even pay her monthly bills.

Knock, knock, knock. It sounded more impatient and was followed by an equally impatient voice. "Nikki Sanders, open up. This is child services."

There was no doubt about why they were here. She had just received a phone call from the hospital.

"Mom?" Nikki looked at the doorway of her bedroom and saw her son. He still looked so small.

"C'mere, honey," she motioned for him to sit next to her. She held him tight. "I won't let them take you away. Not without a fight." He nodded against her shoulder.

The knocking came again. "Nikki Sanders, open the door, or we'll break it down."

Let them, she thought. How could she fight against the evidence - her own DNA. The tests - she took several of them at several different clinics - all showed the same result. She was not Micah's mother. How could it be? She gave birth to them. She knew it best.

It was very quiet now. Maybe they gave up?

"You're thinking about those tests aren't you, Mom," Micah's voice was muffled against her shirt. Nikki wasn't surprised he had guessed right. "I know you're my Mom," he said, looking at her now. Nikki could feel her eyes stinging. She was trying so hard to be strong…and seeing him so brave…

The next words out of his mouth stunned her, "And I know about the other you, too."

"What are you talking about, Micah?" she smiled, a little baffled.

Bang! They were starting to break down the door.

"Mom, I think I know why your DNA doesn't match mine," he said confidently. "It has to do with why you're special. You're a chimera. I did some research. Chimerism is really rare." Micah saw the question come before she even asked.

Bang! This time, the door came crashing down into the house.

"You're a twin, Mom," he explained. "Your twin is living inside of you."

She was stunned. It all made sense, but now was not a time to let it all sink in. Now was a time for action. The last thing she saw before darkness swept in was the smile on her reflections face.

And that's my theory. If you've seen Medical Mysteries over the summer or watched House, MD, you'll have heard of Chimerism.
