He'd never admit it but Kaoru is an absolute mess when he fancies someone.
Kaoru remembers when he first realizes that he's keen of Tamaki, not being able to look the older teen in the eye for at least three days. He remembers fumbling over his words whenever Tamaki talked to him or was in his general area. He remembers how he hand dropped his maths book when Tamaki swung his arm around his and Hikaru's shoulder accompanied with a loud greeting. He also remembers how the blonde had elegantly bent over to pick up the book before handing it to Kaoru, a private smile on his lips.
If anyone had noticed the violent pink Kaoru's cheeks had turned they didn't mention it.
Kaoru likes to believe that he's got his emotions (and facial expressions, the last time he had turned a bright pink Haruhi drug him down to the nurses office because she was positive he was sick) under control when he's around Tamaki. Sure, every time Tamaki so much as brushes against the red headed boy he turns into mush but he doesn't make it as obvious anymore.
It's obvious to Honey-senpai and Mori-senpai, though.
"That's so cute!" Honey had squealed, jumping onto Kaoru's back.
"What's cute?" Kaoru had asked. The corners of Mori's mouth had twitched up into a teeny, tiny smile.
"Your crush on Tamaki," Mori had said bluntly. Kaoru spent the next half hour tripping over his words as he explains that no, he doesn't have a crush on Tamaki and that the reason he's always so red when Tamaki is around in simply because the room temperature.
Honey and Mori had just nodded throughout his explanation, not believing a word of it.
Kaoru likes it short and sweet.
"I've noticed your crush on me," Tamaki says to him one day during the host club. If anybody asks, Kaoru choked on his tea, not on his spit, "and I'd like to kiss you once you've stopped choking on your spit."
Kaoru also likes kissing Tamaki for long spans off time, even though his brother doesn't appreciate it.
