Heroes. A flawed concept.

Notes.

This was a marvel story however I've changed it back to the idea it was supposed to be.

This was a concept, I wanted to get off my chest for a while. I will be writing this with my other story at the same time. A sword dragon update should be next but that chapter is still in the Medium stages. AKA I've only written 1 thousand words and need to write more. I wrote originally wrote this as EMIYA going to the marvel universe but changed it as It got stale into my opinion and turned it into this.

Constructive criticism as always is appreciated, hope you enjoy.

He opened his eyes to his surrounding and as usual, he was in an endless void.

Everywhere around was an abyss, pure blackness with no light shining through.

Almost as if it were a black hole. A place where even light could not escape its grasp.

This was the area where he would wait until Alaya came barking for its dog. Then he would be shipped off to some time period, where he would have to kill thousands of people.

Most of the people are innocent, yet it didn't matter. If anyone in any way shape or form was related to the event, they were to be wiped out.

Such was the duty of a Counter Guardian.

Counter Guardians, truly an oxymoronic statement as they were everything opposite to a Guardian.

Counter Guardians, Protectors of balance, used as a mindless armada to find and erase any threats to humanity.

Whenever a situation required that of a Counter Guardian, it usually insinuated two things. One, something bad enough occurred or was about to happen to draw the attention of Alaya and two, anyone close to the problem was dead.

When he had accepted that offer so many years ago, he was delighted at the chance to continue being a hero.

After a few trips, it seemed as if that were the case, but very soon he discovered the true nature of his job.

He went from just killing the villains to killing all the people involved, to wiping out entire towns and cities.

He'd done it so many times he had no idea how long he had been doing this. Whether it be killing men, children or women, he became accustomed to it as if it was a chore.

He could swear it was just yesterday where he was summoned by Rin Tohsaka to the fifth holy grail war and just minutes later where he bid her farewell before he returned to this hell or did he die to Heracles all alone. He honestly couldn't remember anymore.

He had no idea what would happen next except, anything could honestly happen. Yet there was one thing he was sure of, his eternal hell wouldn't end.

Maybe he'd be summoned to a unique holy grail war. Like that one, he was in with 14 servants. That one was interesting, apparently, Kotomine had a brother who was actually a servant from the previous war. His true name was Shirou Tokisada Amakasu and for some reason, he bore an eerily similar appearance to EMIYA.

While Shirou been previewed to some alternate universes from the Rin in his timeline, he never knew much about them. He was way too focused on becoming a hero of justice to even care. Yet to experience them now was enlightening. For it was all he could enjoy about his "new job". Though he, unfortunately, remembered the time where he met a good Kirei Kotomine. God forbid he ever be forced to meet him again.

However, an ever distant yet familiar aura slowly emerged.

"S-shero I've come to talk" A feminine voice called out to him.

He shifted his eyes and took note of his new surroundings. It was a familiar visage to EMIYA It was a coffee shop located in downtown London, not that far located from the Clocktower. Enforcers and other Magi were often seen visiting the location. He been here himself on a few occasions for business trips of his own.

Right across from him sat a petite blonde with drill locks running down her sides. A blonde woman he once knew in life as Luvia Edelfelt. Daughter of the highly esteemed Edelfelt line, he was known to him mostly as Rin's rival. While he didn't know at the time, he knows realized most of the fights they had were about Luvia trying to win his affection and Rin keeping him away from her. They truly did provide him with some precious memories.

However, reflecting on his past, he was reminded while he was in this hell. Alaya seemingly had the ability to change it to whatever she pleased and take the form of anyone she pleased.

"Alaya what do you want?" he asked annoyed.

"Muu- your no fun onii-chan" she said.

The scene shifted again. They were now in a forest covered in meters of snow. The outline of a castle could be seen in the distance and he recognized it as the Einzbern Castle.

The girl that was in front of him now took the guise of Illyasviel Von Einzbern.

He raised an eyebrow as she usually never took the appearance of his sister unless something was up. That never bodes well for him.

"What do you want," He asked again.

She pouted for a second before taking a serious pose. One that he would never admit looked cute.

"There is something I wish to do, An experiment of sorts that is in need of some study in my opinion. I think you would be the best candidate for the job."

He searched her eyes for any deception, yet he could not see any. He probably wouldn't even know if she was lying.

"Why did you decide to use me?"

"Muu- because you're my favorite Oniiiiiii-chan" she hummed.

He rolled his eyes at her and told her to get on with it. It wasn't like he had any choice.

"Not so fast Onii-chan, I still have things to tell you." she giggled as she skipped around.

He merely stared at her oddly.

' Information about a mission beforehand. She's never done that before' he thought

Alaya was usually one who didn't care for such trivial things. If a Counter Guardian failed, she would merely send another one to go fight until the threat was taken care of. Besides, there weren't many things that could take out a Counter Guardian.

Only things such as Dead Apostle Ancestors, True Magicians, heroic spirits and some phantasmal creatures would be able to stand up or crush a Counter Guardian.

" What if I were to tell you, this mission was a second chance" She giggled. " A mission where you could do the things, you could never do"

" I'd say your full of fucking shit," He remarked dryly.

"Oh what foul language Shirou. What did I tell you about bad language" she responded.

The scene once again shifted and now they were in a place he'd long forgotten. The archery clubs practice facility.

A place where he once came to clear his mind and never missed a shot.

A place where he spent hours with his friends.

A place where he spent days with his Kouhai.

Sakura...

Alaya once again changed her form and now she was Taiga Fujimura.

His childhood sister and elder Guardian.

"Besides you know I'm not one for games Shirouoo" she sang while extending out his name. " There really is a mission out there, which I could discover some very important information.

" What purpose would you have sending me to this mission." He replied snarkily

" That will all come in due time but first let me tell you this opportunity, you're so insistent on learning." She replied.

Alaya told the tale of a boy who lived in a happy family with his mother and father.

A boy who was simply content with his life and even after his father left the picture, he still had his mother to be his support.

The boy went on a vacation with his mother to Fuyuki City, not in the slightest aware of the war that was occurring in the city.

Days later due to the actions of one man, A disastrous blaze destroyed the city and everything crumbled to the ground.

However, in the middle of this hell, a boy continued to walk on. Determined to live on.

Two things became ever clear to Shirou. He finally learned the past of Shir- no himself before the fire, which took everything from him.

Second, he learned what she meant by a second chance.

Right there in front of him was a hollow shell for the taking.

"So Shirou what do you think," She said smiling

"Do I even have a choice," he replied.

"No you don't" She replied with that smile still plastered on her face.

swirls of energy engulfed Shirou and he waited a few seconds before he disappeared.

"I wonder how he's going to be in a world that is very similar to his own, yet at the same time completely different." She muttered while trailing her hand along with a wine glass.

"Regardless I'm sure you won't disappoint me, boy. As you know what the consequences are for failure" She laughed maniacally

Mere Moments later

A boy slowly dragged his feet across the torched, tarred ground as the embers burned into his feet.

Normally one would have felt pain in such a scenario but the boy was completely delirious and had no sense of awareness.

So he continued on, trying with every ounce of will he had to escape this hell.

The sky was purely dark but a cloudy haze washed over and the boy could feel it enter his nose and mouth as he coughed out blood.

"Help us please!" "Over here I need help" "Somebody pleas…"

The boy turned his head side to side looking at all the people screaming at him to help.

Perhaps it was the immense pain they were in or maybe a useless prayer that made them scream to a boy, who by no means would be able to help them.

All it succeeded in doing was making the boy walk faster to escape this prison of Hades

Yet it seemed the dog of Hades was right behind the boy and it took a bite at the boy.

The boy stopped and fell to his knees, grabbing his head and screaming from the immense throbbing he felt.

Who knows how much times passed but slowly the pain subsided to a manageable level and the boy tried to get up.

However, just as the boy got up as if a switch was turned off. His legs crumbled and he fell down face flat onto the ground.

Unwittingly the boy got the dirt into his mouth and spat out everything, but the taste of char and metal remained in his mouth.

Lying on the ground the boy stared up at the sky noticing it was a full moon.

'I wonder what mom would think of this view' he thought before crying as he thought about her death.

It was supposed to be a fun vacation for the boy and his mother and it was for the first few days but then reports came out about a child kidnapper and his mother demanded they stay in the hotel until he was caught.

As days passed and no news came out, his mother's patience wore thin and they went out to go have dinner.

His mother ordered him his favorite meal and they had a terrific dinner and they left for a walk in the city.

Then it happened. A large bang resonated across the city and the boy watched as a large fiery wall engulfed everything as it headed toward him.

His mother grabbed him and pushed his head into her body in an attempt to shield him and soon everything went quiet.

He next woke up alone and began his attempt to leave this hell. There wasn't even a moment for him to realize what had happened.

The boy waited patiently for his time, he realized that this was the end, there was no escaping this hell.

Piece by piece his brain slowly emptied and not long after all that remained was a hollow shell.

The time had arrived and Alaya quickly got to work.

Swirls of energies slowly drilled downward toward the empty shell and soon they danced around the body.

The colors assimilated and soon the visage of a woman was formed.

"I've always seen this memory of yours and have wondered what if truly felt like. What was the atmosphere and how did you survive" Alaya mused to herself "Perhaps it may simply have been your tenaciousness or either extremely good luck, which seems quite unlikely with your E- Rank Luck. Nonetheless, I should transfer him before your family arrives."

Alaya raised her hand to the boy's chest and started on her task. Soon energy began to enter the boy's soul and EMIYA took the boys place

Counter Guardian EMIYA opened his eyes and he realized he was back in this hell. He attempted to move his legs but it was fruitless and he spat out spit from his mouth in an attempt to get rid of the taste of char and ashes.

A heat source began to emanate beneath him and slowly something began to burn into his back as he gritted his teeth

'Dammit Kiritsigu, where the fuck are you" He thought.

A familiar aura began to wash into the area and slowly washed over EMIYA body and he laughed in thankfulness as he recognized what it was. It was the ever soothing presence he had in his life known as Avalon. The esteemed sheath of King Arthur, if it's aura was nearby that meant Kiritsigu was nearby.

"Kiritsigu, over here" A female voice in the distance called out.

EMIYA blinked his eyes as he attempted to recognize the voice. He'd never heard the women voice before so it begged the question, who was she and why was she calling out to Kiritsigu.

Another wave of Nausea hit EMIYA hard and his mind began to go delirious. So delirious, that for some reason he saw a white-haired lady appear over him.

"Oh my god you're alive, Kiritsigu get over here," the lady yelled out.

The longer he stared at the lady, he noticed that she kind of looked like his sister. If Illya had grown to become a full adult. He really must have been delirious if he was beginning to see his sister as an adult.

The lady turned back to face him before she stopped and put her hand in front of her. EMIYA watched fascinatingly as something began to form in her hand and once it was finished he gasped.

'Avalon' he exclaimed to himself.

The lady then turned to EMIYA before bending down and lifting her hand with the sheath toward Shirou.

She slowly lowered it until it entered EMIYA's body and once it did, EMIYA whole body felt as if a huge mountain had been lifted off its body.

EMIYA closed his eyes and waited peacefully until sleep came to take him.
