Death was not at all what Light thought is was going to be. The process leading up to it was painful, yes. He'd tried to survive, but knowing that Ryuk had promised to write his name in the note, he knew it was in vain. He'd been walking blindly, not sure of where he was going. Somehow he ended up in an empty building, and looking up at all the steps he had to climb up… He felt so tired. He began to ascend the steps, before he collapsed.
No. He protested mentally, even though he knew he would die. If Ryuk wrote his name, there is no escaping it. If he ever had a moment of regret, it was right now. He regretted ever agreeing to meet Near, ever agreeing to join the police, ever getting himself caught up in the police. He regretted ever playing the double life. It never works for anyone, and Light was no exception.
The sunlight burned into his eyes all of the sudden. He squinted, hoping this wasn't his end. His heart was beating fast, and he knew although it wasn't now, his end was approaching quickly.
His eyes finally adjusted to the sunlight, and Light wanted to look upon the empty room where he died. Except, when he could see again, there was someone there. A wide-eyed, messy dark haired, slouched postered person.
L? I never did find out your real name. He gazed at L, wondering what he was doing here, forgetting that the aforementioned man was dead. L just stared down at Light, unblinking. What are you doing here? No answer.
Light realized something, just as he felt his heart beat slowing down dramatically, and L began to move to him.
Now I won't die alone.
THE END
Author Note: I wrote this a bit back, after I had finished Death Note. And stopped crying. But yeah, hope you enjoyed this short drabble, that was more of a practice than anything else.
Light K Yagami xx
