He didn't know what it was about her. She wore trousers, not a million skirts and corset, and such, but men's attire. She liked to ride horses bareback, liked onion soup. She didn't care what anyone else thought, and said so a lot.

Of course, inheritance was a factor. She was rich enough to live on her own after her season, when she rejected everyone [or so she planned. she liked cats, and had fine fun talking to no one when alone.

She was wicked smart, completely beautiful and very independent.

So why could Kartik get her out of his mind? Or, out of his bed?

She liked to try new things, like to be ridden and ride.

And, apparently, break hearts.

One night, after they had made love [or so he thought she told him she was leaving.

"to New York. I plan to be an actress. In big productions, with lots of lights, and fans, and im not sorry. It was a good time with you, and for that I am greatful. But it has to end so I can start my life." She got up and got dressed.

He asked her if she would ever come back.

"no. and not for you. Go back to Gemma." She told him, and left.

He could never forget that night, that woman, that sad story.

And he did go back to Gemma. They moved back to India and had a wonderful marriage and Four children. He was happy, but he would always miss his mistress.
