What are Friends For?
A Teen Titans Fanfic
"Well, Raven," said the nurse, "I know this isn't the news you want to hear, but there's no way to reverse it. I'm sorry, honey."
Raven sighed. How could she tell her friends this? No, she decided, she couldn't… wouldn't. "I…I just can't believe this." Raven muttered forlornly. Then, she remembered an important tidbit. "Listen, ummm… Dr. Madison. Can you promise me something?"
"Yes, my dear. Anything."
"No matter what happens to me, you cannot tell anyone. Not even my friends." Dr. Madison began to protest, but Raven stopped her. "Please just promise me this?" Raven's eyes brimmed with tears, and she tried valiantly to fight them back.
"Okay, Raven, but you can't hide it forever."
Tears rolled down Raven's cheek as she nodded solemnly. She thanked her doctor and left for the tower. This couldn't be happening…not now…when she had her life finally figured out.
Once she got back to the Tower, she walked into the common room with her head down. Her friends yelled out jovial greetings to her, and they all went unanswered. She had been crying, and it showed. Her nose was red, and the tears still fell.
Suddenly, a hand appeared on her shoulder. "Hey, Raven, are you okay?" Robin asked worriedly. Raven did not answer. Instead, she flew morosely to her room and locked the door.
Before another thought could be expressed, the familiar red lights and blaring alarm began. Raven turned around and wiped her eyes as she quickly flew back to the common room.
"What's the trouble, Robin?" Raven asked.
"Gizmo just robbed the museum, Mammoth stole money and gold from the bank, and Jinx robbed the jewelry store. Take your pick. They are all converging in one central point of the city, but rest assured they will not be there for long." Robin replied bluntly. "Cyborg, you and Star take Mammoth. Beast Boy, you and Raven take Jinx, and I'll take Gizmo. Let's go!"
They all left in their respective manners. Beast Boy and Star flew ahead of Raven, who was feeling quite fatigued. Cyborg and Robin sped their vehicles in front of everyone. Beast Boy glanced back at Raven from time to time, noticing her deteriorating condition.
Raven loved the feel of the wind in her hair and on her face. It was like her escape from life's trappings. But today, she was not enjoying it. Her hair flew out behind her, and suddenly, her temples felt as if they would explode at any minute. She stopped flying and gently massaged her temples in a futile attempt to ease the pressure.
For the thousandth time in five minutes, Beast Boy looked back at Raven. When Beast Boy saw her massaging her temples, he slowed down and flew over to her. Understanding the gesture, Raven spoke, "I'm okay, Beast Boy, really. Just go ahead. I'll catch up." Beast Boy was worried. He hesitated for a moment before flying back over to Starfire.
As they continued, Beast Boy could not help but worry about Raven. He knew Raven would not want to seem weak in front of the others, and she would probably push herself as far as she could even if it killed her. What would happen if he didn't keep an eye on her? After all, she had been crying earlier…Raven never cried. Ever.
Hope you all enjoyed the first *updated* installment! Let me know what you think!
