No one knows how these stories get started. It's even less rarely known who started them or why. And the amount of truth in them is unknown and uncared about by most. All that matters is that they have become legends. Legends talked about in the halls and scribbled on the wall of District 12's school grounds. Of all the ones that are known, none carry more truth or have endured longer than those about the broad shouldered, blue-eyed Mellark men; or as they more commonly referred to in the hallways of District 12 high school – The Fabulous Bakery Boys.

It was long said that a girl could easily get lost in the 'ocean blue' depths of John 'Johnnycakes' Mellark's eyes. (And if you paid attention to such things you could have seen his wife of 40+ years do so on a regular basis).

Legend told that Farl Mellark could make a girl think un-pure thoughts with a single smile in her direction. And judging by the way women visited the bakery on a daily basis (much to the resentment of his wife of over 20 years) just to catch a glimpse of that smile, it was still true.

Story has it that Brantly 'Bran' Mellark could get a girl to loose all her inhibitions with a single kiss. And there where several girls who could probably verify that statement, including his current fiancé (who actually had) if asked.

Ryden (Rye to his family and friends) Mellark was known for his ability to talk a girl on to her back (or on to his lap, depending on their location) faster than a person could loose a needle in a haystack. A fact many girls, both Town and Seam, could readily attest to. (It is also worth noting that this particular talent was accomplished without lies or deceptions on the young man's part).

She didn't know which, if any, of the things said about the generations of bakers was accurate. She only knew that it was rumored that Peter "Peeta" Mellark could put all the others to shame, when he chooses to. But the rumors remain just that, unconfirmed rumors, because Peeta is not the kind to kiss and tell.

She is determined to learn what truth, if any, there is to his 'abilities' first hand. So she decides that the next time she catches those deep pools of Mediterranean blue staring at her, she won't be the first one to look away. Because deep down inside she can admit how quickly and easily his intense blue gaze can draw her in. She can admit that when she is lost in his eyes her heart skips a beat and she can't stop her mind from drifting to thoughts of how his hands and lips would feel on her. She knows that it wouldn't take much for him to convince her to do things she has never acknowledged wanting. She knows that learning the truth behind this legend is well worth the risk.

Legend would one day refer to them as the Star-crossed Lovers of District 12.
