A/N: Yeah, so this is the first fanfic I've written that hasn't been dedicated to someone else. Yay for me. I randomly wrote this at work one night and it's currently 1am (I'm a nightshifter. Therefore, I won't go to bed until about 7am. XD;;), so if you notice any spelling mistakes or whatnot, please excuse them.
Warnings: Shrabble (not short enough for a drabble or long enough for a one-shot; term from daiyaonna), angst, and I changed the Hinder lyrics to accomodate for past tense. However, all lyrics and characters (yada yada) do not belong to me. So, give credit where it's due. Enjoy!
- You could've done much better than me;
After all of the lies that I made you believe. -
She was gone.
After many hours struggling to live, she'd finally let go and slipped through his fingers. Even in death, she bore a faint smile, but it did little to ease the agony of his now shattered heart, and he knelt by her bedside, clutching her pale hand to him as tears silently streaked his face.
He wanted to scream and never stop screaming. She didn't deserve this—not his beautiful Raine—especially not now, not at what was supposed to be one of the happiest days of their lives.
He brushed back her silky brown hair, his heart begging her to wake up, to smile at him again, to be so full of life…
She didn't.
She never would.
- I told myself I won't miss you
But I remembered
What it feels like beside you. -
That night he lay in bed alone—now forever alone—for sleepless hours, drowning in his misery and grief, his pain still bringing forth tears of bitterness and guilt. He couldn't think coherently with her gone, and a sob escaped his throat as he clutched the sheets to his chest; still able to breathe her scent that clung to the soft fabric. The scent of lavender…A scent that'd always comforted and soothed him now only filled him with more pain at her loss.
He rolled over on his side, reaching out to touch the pillow next to him. It was cold, like his heart. The gold band around his ring finger seemed to burn his flesh, and he fisted slim fingers in thick black strands of hair.
He'd failed to protect her.
And he would never get another chance.
- I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocence tastes
And I think you should know this…
You deserved much better than me. -
End
If you haven't figured it out, according to this, Raine died in childbirth. I was gonna continue on with it, but decided I liked it this way for now. I may write another LagunaxRaine sometime though. Just give me time, I'm sure.
