Chapter 1 – A new beginning
Heads started to turn as I got into my new Jaguar LS. I just looked straight ahead not showing any motion, not showing any emotion. That is the way I was in the past and that is the way I am going to be now. I never want to alarm people with my new rides, my style of dressing, and my style of living. I wish to remain as anonymous as possible. Try and make it to where I can live in a town in peace, unfortunately that was never going to happen.
I knew there would be a lot to talk about with a new face, a new body in town. Everyone wanting to know where I was from. How long I have lived there, if I had any friends there. I just wanted to stay silent and get this part of my life over with. Live this part of my life until I could stand it no more. I figured that with the way everything was going I was going to stay here a year, possibly a year and a half.
Then I saw her, the one who was almost exactly like me. She had that dark luminous cloud over here like I did. It was then that I realized that I might stay here a little bit longer than I had guessed. I wanted to get to know her better. I had been alive for five centuries and only once before had I ever meet anyone like her. The thing is I have a problem with bad luck, or they have a problem with bad luck when around me. Whatever it was I didn't want for that to happen with her. I kept my distance but at the same time used my keen sense of hearing to close in on what she was saying. That is the scary thing though, she wasn't speaking. I tried using my other keen sense that only a certain type of person would have, and that is reading the mind. So many comments about me around her but I couldn't get into her mind for some odd reason. It was almost as though she knew what I was doing and blocked me out. "Hmm" I thought to myself. "Weird, I was unable to tap into her mind." I tried it again without her looking or even suspecting I was still around. I couldn't do it for some very odd reason. "This is a new one," I said silently "Everyone but her I am able to get into, she is different."
I went to a house I bought from a really close friend. I went in to find everything was the way I had expected it. As I smiled to myself I noticed a very special person right outside my window. When I went outside to meet her with great haste she was gone. "Damn it, I missed her once again." She does that every time I move to another area, she is the memory I am trying to escape. I then noticed that the girl I couldn't listen to couldn't read her mind was standing right next to me. I didn't flinch, turn, or even look her way I just waited. "What's your name"? She finally asked. I still didn't answer, not wanting anyone to know my name or in that case my residence. It was a bit late for the hiding out in town. "Did you not hear me, I asked for your name"? She was getting annoyed now. "I am sorry but I did hear you the thing is I wish not to give out my name." I said. "Alright then, that is all you had to say and I would have let you be with your secret life." My eyes were now wide open, how did she know about that, can she read minds to or does she just have that gift of reading people extremely well. "How did you know"? I asked. "I just know." She winked at me with a smile on her face. My curiosity was now running wild; I had to know how she knew.
