None of the Xmen characters belong to me, I'm only borrowing them for non profit entertainment, or torture, depending on how well I write. I read the reviews I have gotten on part one and will try to use the advice given. Hopefully this will take an interesting twist.
Jean found Logan several hours later drinking a beer and watching the news with little interest. She hesitated before approaching him, although she was aware he knew she was there even though she had not made a sound. He pulled on his cigar before asking "How's the girl?"
Silently she cross the room to stand by the table where his feet where propped. She looked at him meditatively before answering, "I have no idea, Logan." He looked at her as if she were joking, but he knew that wasn't Jean's style to joke about the welfare of another.
He swung his feet off the table and stood up. "What do you mean, you don't know?" Jean scowled a bit at the rank cigar smell that was part of being Logan, before she answered, "I don't know."
Logan turned and began walking towards the medical facilities, "Well, did you run all your tests, did you do all that pokin' and proddin' crap you seem so fond of?"
She smiled a bit at his description of her routine checkups, but sobered as she thought about what she had just witnessed. "Yes, I did."
"Then what is the big deal?" he threw over his shoulder as he continued down the hallway. Realizing he didn't hear her footsteps echo his in the long sterile hallway, he stopped in mid stride and turned to her, "She's not dead is she? I didn't drag her two hundred miles to have her die, did I?"
"No, she's...she's not dead." Jean assured him in a trouble voice. Logan looked at Jean closely. "So she's not dead. Then what's the problem?" He turned and opened the door to the examining room as Jean answered, "The problem is: I don't know what she is."
Logan stood frozen at the door as he looked into the room. Alarms were sounding and lights were flashing. The monitors were screaming, indicating that the patient was under cardiac distress and that she wasn't breathing. All this assaulted Logan's sensitive hearing and he turned to Jean who was walking in calmly. "What's wrong? Ain't you gonna do somethin'?"
She continued walking slowly to the bed and stood there looking down at the patient. Finally, she flicked off the monitors with a gentle push of her mind. The room was silent, except for the breathing of the three people that were there. Logan joined Jean look at girl he had rescued.
"The monitors have been going crazy ever since I hooked her up. But, she's breathing just fine and her heartbeats are steady. I've run hours of tests and I've only been able to determine two things. She is not as young as she looked and .." Jean turned on the machine that scanned the internal structure of her body. "And that is not her body."
Logan looked stunned at what he saw. It was almost as if he were looking at two x-rays superimposed over each other. He saw two hearts beating at different intervals and two set of lungs working. He closed his eyes and looked again, "What in the hell is going on Jean?"
"I have no idea. Logan, where did you find her?"
