Disclaimer: The Harry Potter universe is all Rowling's work.
Another muse for this story was (you guessed it) the song "Jolene", originally written and performed by Dolly Parton; Although personally I love and listened to the White Stripes version whilst writing this.

A/N: A short but heartbreaking story, which I hope all of you'll enjoy reading. Please let me know what you think :)

Honestly I thought we'd spent the rest of our lives together. Now I know that I was living an illusion simply because of my blinding love for him.

They told me to not let it get to me. And at first I didn't, but then everything changed.

She was beautiful. With auburn locks, and eyes which shone with emerald green. And oh how she seemed so very noble with her ivory skin. With such looks I understood how my boyfriend couldn't help himself but to be besotted with her more and more.

Sometimes when we spent time together as a group I noticed how he watched her all dreamy-eyed. After all she had a voice, which seemed as soft as summer rain in the starching heat. Not to forget her smile, which was like a "breath of spring" I believed were his words. How could I compete with that?

It even came down to him talking about her in his sleep.
Of course I wasn't prude. We were intimate with each other. Mind you we loved each other. At least he told me he did. Even though we both knew he was lying. Although sometimes it seemd like he tried to convince himself of having feelings for me.
Either way he didn't love me and still I chose to stay with him and secretly cry, when he dreamed about her and cried out for her.

Really I knew she could easily take him away from me and was about to. Although she didn't know herself yet. But I loved him. I needed him. He was my one and only.
She had a lot of suitors. With her looks and her sweet character it was no wonder she did. But that meant she also had a wide array of boys to choose from.
I on the other hand only wanted him.

That's why I decided to talk to her and she seemed to understand. Until someday she changed her mind.
Of course he chose her over me.
After all she was a red-haired, green-eyed beauty. She held his heart captive.
I was nothing more than his ex-girlfriend now.

They were happily sitting by the lake whereas I stood on the Astronomy Tower's parapet. Never again would I let somebody lead me on. Nobody would get a chance to do that ever again. He was my one true love. I was nothing more than another girl to him. Soon I would be nothing more than a faint memory for him. A faint memory of a girl he'd left behind on the school grounds.

Did you know? James Potter finally won Lily Evan's heart. Good for them, right?!
