The Legend of Zelda:
The End of All Things
Prologue: The New Threat
It has been many years since the fall of the twisted king Ganon and the usurper Zant. With the twilight gone from Hyrule, peace once again began to fall upon the troubled land, bringing it into a new golden age.
Or so one would think.
Dark forces beyond what Hyrule had so far encountered had casts its evil eyes to the beacon of light, searching for that which so many others before it had desired; the power of the goddesses. It had watched and observed Ganon's attempts at finding and using it, learning from his mistakes while waiting patiently for an opportunity to strike.
For years it waited, calmly, silently in the shadows. Even when Ganon's plans had been foiled once again by a boy in green, it still waited. The boy, the Twilight Hero, soon left the lands of Hyrule, searching for more adventures and wisdom that the land he had always lived in could not offer him, leaving behind friends and family alike whom he had grown stronger with.
It was then, while Hyrule was still rebuilding, that the Shadow struck.
It wasn't sudden though. Oh no. It was slow, simple. The first one to fall was the king himself. He started making simple demands that, over time, began to grow out of hand.
All those who were not of Hylian decent were to be killed immediately. All those of other races were to be treated as traitors to the crown and executed if seen within the boundaries of Hyrule town. Books were to be burnt in the street, and the passing of information that involved anywhere outside of the city walls was strictly forbidden, under pain of death.
Carefully, Hyrule became a place of silence, fear choking the words in people's minds and throats, forcing them to stay quiet in case they were to be captured and imprisoned.
Towns that lay in Hyrule soon went under a process called 'Purging'; the town and everyone in it were to be exterminated due to some unknown contamination. The grounds afterwards were forbidden to be travelled upon by mere commoners, allowing the growing darkness to use these grounds as places on which to breed monstrosities. Such crimes against nature were soon put in circulation as guards and the staple bulk of the Purging forces.
People being beat down in the street became as common as buying groceries and no-one gave a second glance at ladies being harassed in public. Stealing was no longer an issue, as people had nothing of value, forcing many to become bankrupt and homeless. Those who did find themselves in such a position soon departed the world, either by choice or force, for it was well known that death was better than the alternative that they offered.
Some tried to fight. Taking up arms and what little magic they knew, a handful of brave Hylians tried to fight such changes, sabotaging their cruel machines and liberating prisoners.
It was not enough though. One by one, they fell, to sword, poison and corruption. The last courageous few, dead and with them, went Hyrule's hope.
Years would pass, each sending the land into even deeper darkness, shrouding what future it might once have had.
And still the Shadow kept waiting.
