Hey everyone! Okay, so I actually wrote this a while ago, but I only got to publishing it now. I had this random idea one day that 'scaredy cat' said aloud could also be spelled 'scared Ekat'. Thus, this story was born. This is just a one shot for you all to read if you're waiting for me to update the other story. I'm halfway done with the next chapter, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.
Disclaimer:
I don't own the 39 Clues. Or school.
Enjoy!
First, I must explain. Sinead and Hamilton attend the same school. Yes, it is odd that Sinead would need to attend school, but that is a story for another time. They both have the same homeroom. Once their teacher discovered their absolute fondness for each other, he placed them in the middle of the room, right next to each other. Obviously, this led to even more fighting than usual, which the entire class quite enjoyed. Sinead and Hamilton each had people who would always take their side. Followers, you could call them. Each group of followers was made up of about one third of the class. The remaining third liked to make bets on who would win the arguments. They didn't have a very good teacher, though, as he participated in the betting.
On this particular day, Sinead and Hamilton were at it again.
"You're so weak, I bet you couldn't climb a tree to save your life," taunted Hamilton. His followers grinned.
"Idiot," Sinead muttered under her breath as she remembered the clue hunt. Aloud, she asked, "Have you ever heard of the story 'Green Eggs and Ham'?" Without waiting for an answer, she continued. "With a brain like yours, I doubt you have. Well, I think it would be appropriate if you had green eggs. You're already green with envy, so it would be a perfect fit." Her followers returned the grin, saying, "Beat that!"
Hamilton glared at her. "Scared Ekat."
Sinead's eyes widened a fraction of an inch, and she flashed him a warning glance. It took him a few seconds, but he got it.
"Oh! Um… Your hair is so frizzy, you look like a scared cat!"
His followers screamed, "OH!"
Sinead rolled her eyes. "Nice job, Dolt," she said sarcastically. "Did you come up with that yourself, or did you finally figure out how to use a dictionary?" Naturally, her side yelled, "BURN!"
Hamilton flushed. "Hey!" he exclaimed.
Sinead smirked, saying, "I won."
The bell rang. Hamilton got up and walked out, fuming.
Money was exchanged.
The next day:
When Sinead and Hamilton came to homeroom, they found each of the groups using the same insults from the day before against the other groups.
"Can't even use a dictionary!"
"Scaredy cat! Scaredy cat!"
"You're just green with envy."
The phrase 'scaredy cat' seemed to be the most popular.
Sinead and Hamilton sat down and began yet another argument.
And that, my friends, is how the phrase 'scaredy cat' came to be.
Please review! I hope you liked it!
