Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto Uzumaki. I do, however, own an orange fish named Naruto and a silver one named Hinata. Oddly enough, Hinata's the hyper one and Naruto's the shy one.

A/N: My first published foray into the Naruto universe! This is just a short ficlet, from Hinata's POV. I hope you enjoy it!

He perched on the stone likeness of the one that she had long ago realized shared his appearance, looking out at the village with unusually soft eyes—a pure blue, more beautiful than the sky to her sight. Even though she saw him every day, she rarely saw him so unguarded.

Every day, every minute, every second.

She had admired him, the little boy who stood tall in the face of ignorance. She had seen him hated, seen him treated worse than her family treated her. She had seen him defy those who wished him to fall. She had stood behind him, watching as he soared higher and higher.

Behind him, near him, with him.

He had noticed her before, but he had never wondered why she was there. Why she was hiding nearby so often. He had never realized that she always seemed to be there, watching him.

Watching him, watching out for him, watching over him.

She knew the reason for what she did… but she could never bring herself to tell him. She watched him from the shadows, one guardian angel watching over another—for, with his longing to protect even those who had spurned him, he could be nothing else. When she heard him called a demon, she wanted more than anything else to say—no, to shout—that the speaker was mistaken.

Mistaken, misguided, wrong.

She looked at him, and saw something words could never truly describe. Courage, determination, strength… those came the closest, but his spirit outmatched them all. She acknowledged him for that.

Acknowledged him, admired him, believed in him.

She loved him.

Loved him, loves him, loving him.

She could—she would—watch him forever. She'd be his guardian angel, even if he never learned the truth about her feelings for him. She'd always be there for him.

Always, always, always.

A/N: Okay, sorry about the weird format. I thought that it worked well for the fic. Did it, or was it a mistake?
