My first sad story. Joey, Marik, Mai, and Tea. Basically, they are trapped in a cabin by a murderer who is out to steal Marik's rod. Joey's POV. WARNING: CHARACTER DEATH!!
Silent Wars
Snowflakes twirled and spun their winter dance, freely falling from the cloudy sky. Joey trudged through the snow, which almost came up to his knees. He and Marik had decided to go on a deer hunting trip for a week. Marik brought his girlfriend, Tea, along. Joey had brought Mai, his best friend. At least he calls her his best friend.
Joey crouched in a clearing to rest. He was starting to get worried. They said they'd call. Why didn't they call yet? They should have called a long time ago! Joey had never hunted before in his life. Marik went yesterday, and today was Joey's turn. They had assured him they would call his cell phone to see how he was doing. He had to be out wandering for hours, and hadn't heard a word from anyone. His thoughts were broken by a rustling sound. He turned to see a decent sized buck. The deer didn't notice him. Joey smiled. Marik didn't come back with anything, and he's gone hunting before. Wouldn't it be something if I came back with a deer and he didn't?
He grabbed his gun and aimed at the animal. The big buck spotted him. He stared at Joey fearfully, scared stiff. Run, you stupid animal! Why don't you just run now and save yourself? Wait, what am I thinking? With all of its might, Joey's mind told him to shoot him, but his body just wouldn't do it. Joey shook the gun, but the frightened animal stayed rooted to the spot. " Go on, get outa' here, ya dumb animal! Get!," he shouted. The buck bolted across the woods. Now I know I'm going soft.
Joey turned to go back to the cabin that they were staying at, empty handed. I'd better not tell anyone about letting the deer go, or I'll never hear the end of it. He walked onward, watching his breath come out in a puff. Lingering in the back of his mind was the thought that he hadn't heard from his friends all day.
Upon reaching the cabin, Joey immediately sensed something was wrong. Everything was still. No one was outside to greet him. He tried to open the door, but it was locked. He banged on the door. " Go away!," he heard Marik whine. Joey cocked an eyebrow. "Why? I live here, remember? " Marik recognized his voice, and quickly shoved him inside. All the lights were out. " What's the matter with you?," yelled Joey, "Why didn't you call?" "All of the power's dead." was Marik's response. "Joey, something terrible happened while you were gone." Icy fear gripped Joey's heart. "What happened? Where's Mai?" "It's Tea," said Marik with a shaky voice, "She drowned in the pond behind the cabin." Joey's eyes widened. He couldn't believe it. "Where's Mai?" he managed to ask. "She's in the bedroom. I can't swim, so she had to get Tea out. The whole thing must have startled her pretty bad."
Joey opened the bedroom door and saw Mai sitting at the edge of the bed, trembling with wide eyes. He put a comforting arm around her. She leaned up against him and looked at him fearfully. "Joey, there were other footprints by Tea's coming from the woods. She didn't fall in; she was pushed. Somebody killed Tea!"
