A/N: None of Tolkien's brilliance belongs to me.

I wrote this a few years ago. It was hiding in an old computer file.

Asfaloth

Asfaloth is my name,

Running swiftly and tame.

Run to the ford

That's what I'm running toward.

Bearing my master's wish,

I run like a swimming fish.

I have not time to rest,

This is my ultimate test.

Behind me I'm being followed,

Jump over the log that's hollowed.

Make it to the other side of the river,

They are coming hither.

Run, run faster my master tells me,

I run faster for thee.

They are coming,

Their hoofs are humming.

I'm almost there,

I'll beat them by a hair.

The other side is near,

Few more steps and I'm here.

Master tells the water to rise,

And then I close my eyes.

The enemy is drowned,

My master is crowned.

Noro lim, Asfaloth I still hear,

Then I cry my final tear.

Now there is time to rest,

For this was my ultimate test.
