Ilúvatar's Inbox: All Shall Have Their Part

Summary: Even Mary Sue shall not be forgotten at the time of the Second Music. Respectfully dedicated to everyone who dares, in the face of public humiliation, to post fics with titles like "A Girl from Earth Joins the Fellowship." Yes, it's funny too!

Everything was in order for the beginning of the Second Music. Eru Ilúvatar looked around and smiled, feeling well pleased.

All the children of Arda were there, from the Ainur to the Elves, Men, Dwarves, Ents, Hobbits, Eagles, and all. Melkor, Sauron, and all the other bad guys were back to being good, tired of the evil they had been doing for so long, and ready to do their part to help make things right again.

There was only one task remaining. Eru logged into his email account to check for any last-minute messages.

He only had one new email. The title read "ATTN Ilúvatar: Plz read before the final music!" It was from "Fangirls of Arda." Looking at his Inbox screen, Eru noticed that there was a file attachment.

Being Eru, and having nothing to fear from spyware or viruses, he pulled up the email. Inside was a short but heartfelt letter.

Dear Eru Ilúvatar,

Please don't forget us! We know a lot of people in your world have hated some of us, but we've all tried our best to help any way we can. A few of us have even tried to help your 'bad guy' children - Melkor, Sauron, Saruman, the Orcs - since we felt sorry for them and we knew you couldn't have made them in the first place to be evil people.

We all love your world. Please, if it's not too presumptuous, would you listen to the audio file we've sent you? If it's good enough, you might even want to add it to the Second Music. Is that asking too much? O_O

Yours in reverence,

All the Mary Sues

Interested and touched, Eru clicked on the file attachment. A song started to play, sung by voices as of many swooning fangirls. Eru recognized "May it Be," a song that the hobbit Pippin had once sung to ease the loneliness of the old steward Denethor in the days of his decline. The song, beautiful to begin with, sounded surprisingly lovely when sung by the hundreds of overlapping voices, every one of which was filled with feeling.

Eru smiled. Why not? he thought. The Mary Sues have been a part of my world too, even though they came from outside it. Many of them have done amazing things to help my children, saving them from danger time and again, or bringing much-needed laughter into their lives when times were darkest.

He nodded. Clicking on the audio file again, Ilúvatar downloaded it into his digital boom box.

"Everyone," he announced, "we're ready to start. I have one addition to the Music besides your own voices: this audio song file from the Mary Sues. Just let it weave in with your own music when you sing."

The gathered peoples of Arda murmured their agreement. Eru could see in their faces that they all appreciated and respected the contributions the Mary Sues had made over the ages; not least the former bad guys, who had often found a Mary Sue to be their only friend when all was dark for them.

"Let the Second Music begin!" Eru Ilúvatar exclaimed, as happy at the prospect as any of his children. As everyone there started to sing, Eru pressed "play" on his digital boombox and the voices of the Mary Sues joined in with those of all the others.
