She stared at the muggle contraption plugged into the wall...the thing that she called a "lifesaver" for just over two decades...then her eyes shifted to a photo on the vanity. 3 little girls, two with the kinkiest curls ever imaginable, one had a beautiful deep auburn colour, the other the darkest of ebony. The third girl had board straight strawberry blonde hair. Laughter was in the auburn haired girl's eyes,a sparkle that time had tragically erased
She then looked up in the mirror. The bright rich auburn had faded into a deep reddish brown, she still had the same long heart shaped face and tiny sprinkle of freckles on her nose and cheeks. But time had created lines and creases, from laughter and from tears. Among the many photos on the vanity was one that stood out to her.
It was a beautiful day in September, one she would never forget. After fussing about the shops, trying to find a dress that wouldn't be "too old lady looking" she found a beautiful tea length dress,it was olive coloured and was overlain with lace. She wore heels that day, something she rarely did. He looked incredible as well. A navy suit and matching tie (which she had to tie, because well ties had never been his thing...even at school) She smiled softly,he had that goofy grin on his face, the one that never failed to make her smile. Her star looked beautiful, and so very grown up...no longer was she the toothless little girl, that would run about the garden, climbing any tree in sight. Instead stood a brave, beautiful young lady...all grown up and starting her happily ever after.
She looked all around the room, realising that this contraption was a way of hiding herself...it was a mask to hide all the pain she held inside her. "Right,no more hiding" she said to herself, unplugging the thing.
She headed down the hallway, smiling she opened the door. The little one stood in his cot,as if he was waiting for her. "Good morning birthday boy. Shall we get ready, and go pick up your cake and Auntie and cousin"
