Disclaimer : I do not own, nor did I think up the Thundercats. Genius though it is. Therefore I own none of the following, nor am I making any money from this!
Author's Note : All because I apparently overdosed on Thundercats DVD's quite a long time ago. **Summary corrected especially for Mermaid Ninja, who was right to point out Cheetara is the only adult female (which I had correct in the main body of text in this chapter0.
Cat Fight
Scene One
The moon had not long risen, it's pale light filtering into the black pyramid and disturbing Mumm-Ra's eternal rest. The powerful being groaned with his sarcophagus as the great tomb opened before him. He glided down the aisle to the great bubbling purple pool at the centre of his tomb. His loose red cloak shadowed his bandaged face so that all that could be seen was his glowing red eyes. His evil gaze rested on the bubbling surface of the pool, seeing beyond it's surface to what the Ancient Spirits were showing him. The Thundercats... Mumm-Ra's rumbling growl echoed about the pyramid as the Thundercats flaunted their strength, speed and agility in a game of "Snarf-in-the-Middle". They were throwing a coloured disc to one another across the circle, and almost always just too high for Snarf – who was leaping and twisting in almost unnatural ways in his desperate attempts to seize their toy – to catch. Even as the great Pharaoh of darkness watched them, the Snarf stormed off in a huff, tired both physically and of trying unsuccessfully to catch the disc. The Cub Lion-O was obviously pleading with him not to go, but Snarf seemed adamant. Now the game became even more of a talent show as the Lord of the Thunderbrats himself was shoved into the centre of the ring by Panthro. Mumm-Ra almost turned away with his rising anger.
In all the time that the Thundercats had been on Third Earth, and it was not such a long time in the life of the Eternal Mumm-Ra, countless battles had raged between the Thundercats and Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living and his moronic band of mutants. Small wonder that those pathetic pests had never defeated Lion-O and his cradle of Kittens. The mutants had enough trouble fighting amongst themselves for supremacy – the fools could never realise that even if one could dominate the rest, even if they could work together for more than five minutes at a time, they could never defeat the mighty Mumm-Ra. Who craved most of all to rid Third Earth of the Thundercats and to possess their most treasured weapon – the Eye of Thundera. "One day, Thundercats..." The mummy began to turn away almost glumly, his frustration drained away. So tired, always so tired...
Then something caught his eye. The only adult female amongst the Thundercats, Cheetara, was laughing throatily at Lion-O lying in a heap in the middle of the group, the disc clutched tightly to his chest. Whatever she said to him, he blushed a deep crimson from cheek to ear, and grinned in embarrassment. But what really intrigued Mumm-Ra was deeper than that, more base instinct. What flashed through Lion-O's eyes was desire...
"Of course..." Mumm-Ra grinned to himself. "What better way to beat the Thundercats than with one of their own? Turn them against one another with love... Ancient Spirits of Evil, transform this decaying form to Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living..."
