The Little Things

She didn't hate him, exactly. It was more so the remarks and actions, which eventually added up that, she hated entirely. Hate seemed like too harsh of a word for a person like him. But if asked, she was sure she could come up with a list of things that bothered her.

For example, she definitely hated how he thought just because her parents were Muggles that he was automatically better than her. Despite her better grades, her thoroughly developed magical skills, and all of her friends. He always fell one step short of being as good as her, but he always insisted he was better than her overall.

She also hated the way he emphasized the tiniest of words to get his point across. It was the small words, the ones that wouldn't at the time seem important… but if you sat and thought about it, there it was.

She hated the arrogant way he walked. Hated it. Everything that it implied, and everything that he intended to let it say for him.

One thing she couldn't stand would be his even more arrogant sneer and the lazy drawl that often accompanied it. It was like… I'm-too-good-to-speak-like-a-normal-person-so-I-just-slur-my-words-but-it-still-sounds-perfect.

If there was one thing she hated most about people, it would be their arrogance. He thought he was just so perfect that it was nearly sickening! Because he – oh damn him - it would only be annoying in him because he really was perfect.

She knew that. It was glaringly obvious. All his imperfections made him seem like a god on legs. He was heaven on Earth.

The two of them had been dating since late Seventh Year. He would do small things, like bring her a flower everyday that he had picked from the gardens. Every so often, he would owl her a note for any meal of the day telling her how much he loved her. He would make a show of defending her in front of Snape, who eventually learned to not pick on her. He promised her that he would stand by her in the war, no matter what. He had changed all the little things to make her happy. But the thing that she loved most about him was how he had sacrificed his life for her.

It was the little things that added up, to sway her opinion one way or another. But it was the big one that reinforced her love for centuries to come; the tale of their dedication forever written in a book like she so much loved.
