Upon that day which many did fall dead
Human and hostile species died aside
Defeat to side with man and pain and dread
Extinction teetering on edge astride
Marines combat their foes outnumbered vain
Survival hopeless now all ammo spent
The cries of dead their echoes stilly wane
Retreat no longer, fight is now descent
The Master Chief is now protecting friends
He alone brings them faith to now believe
The turning point he now sees fated ends
He saves the world and leaves it alone to grieve
A hand to reach and bring up from abyss
A hero saves all but his life dismiss
