Claire can hear Echo's unspoken question as her fingertips trace the scars. Uneasiness and tension fill the doctor as Echo's soft fingers trace the patterns she knows all too well across her cheeks. She tries to hold them back, but a few hot tears escape her defenses and roll down Claire's cheeks at the feel of Echo's touch.
"Does it hurt?" Echo's words are innocent, concerned, but they still send a knife through Claire's heart, reminding her once again of the memory she most wants to forget.
"Not anymore." Claire whispers her answer, wishing she could believe her own words.
