"Hi," I said, sitting next to another student, a girl with jet black, spiked hair
"Hi, my name is Hailey" said the perky raven-haired girl sitting next to her. "You must be Emerald, the new girl, how do you like the school so far?" she asked.
"How do you know my name? I didn't remember seeing her in homeroom. Maybe I just didn't notice her. I was pretty interested in the guy sitting in front of me. What was this "popular cheerleading girl" doing talking to me anyway?
"Oh, everyone knows your name. We rarely have transfer students, and a transfer student from Illinois, even if it's not far away, is a pleasure." She spoke highly of me, something I was not used to. She talked to me like I was her best friend, which was fine by me, considering I was used to being invisible next to all the popular, rich kids at my old school. "Are you ok? You look kinda pale" she asked softly, looking naturally concerned.
"What? Oh, yah, fine thanks" I stammered, making myself blush for the second time in California.
"Well, if your sure. Hey, have you ever tried out for cheerleading? Tryouts are tomorrow after school if you want to try out or just watch me try out. I always make the squad, but they make me try out again every year, to give other people a chance." She sounded really excited for me, looking at me and would have made a puppy face if not for the guy who just entered the room and started towards us. "Omg. That is Chad. And he's walking towards us!!!" she whispered, now ecstatic.
"Oh, I feel like such a newbie asking this. What makes Chad so popular? His personality, his hotness, his family…" I could go on and on, but he was in front of us now.
"Hello, Emerald, Hailey" he spoke formally, and directly, and I liked it. I blushed. "So I was talking to my dad, Principal Scottman, and he asked me to show you to your classes, and so we have all our classes together too, naturally. I hope you don't mind our electives, I chose architecture and Art. Is that ok? I mean because I can change them…." He ended weakly, clearly not being able to read expressions correctly.
"Oh, yes. I was surprised, sorry. I just didn't know we had the same interest, that's all. I mean, if you picked those classes because of me, don't because I want to be an artist, but if you wanted to do something different…" I ended, not having anything to say. Hailey just stared, dumbfounded.
"I assure you, I did not, But that is why I am in this magnet, and you are as well I would think?" he spoke regally almost, just a hint. Showing off probably….I hope.
"Ok class, settle down, I know Emerald is here, but we still have a test to take, which Emerald, I assure you, you don't have to take it until you are ready. I said I would do as much as I could, and Mr. Craw, thank you for the kind welcome. The rest of school passed by in a daze, only aware of who I was walking with, a god, so to speak. He was really gorgeous, with tousled blond hair with all shades of blond and some brunette. I knew without asking that they were natural, and eyes the color of chocolate, so warm and brown, you felt lost in them, looking so sweetly at you…….
